Although I prefer red wine, some of my favorite wine has been white
I never used to consider white wine as wine, period. Then I discovered Pinot Grigio and some Chardonnays from Argentinia that are just exquisite.
I'm trying to build up my wine picking skills, so this was really helpful for picking some good whites
My friend is a wine snob. I hate when he knocks white wine in general.
Well now, my dear,
First of all, don't sample the product "excessively" before reviewing...
(Or during reviewing...)
Or do. Just don't conduct yourself like a shameless lush.
On a more serious note -- Speaking of good (and in this case extremely affordable) white wines, Chateaus St. Michelle Riesling is one to check out. It's nothing to write home (or anywhere else) about, but it's lovely as an aperitif with cheese, or as a desert wine with a fruit custard.
Don't be afraid of the "lowly" white wines. There are some very accessible Rieslings, Pinot Grigios, and (dare I say) un-oaked Chardonnays that are worth trying given the right setting, even if you are not usually a fan of what you might think of as "white wine".
(That always used to mean "Oak-ey Chardonnay" to me. I was wrong.)
Happy drinking,
/ah
Thanks for sharing this info on white wine. I usually drink the red varieties, but my wife likes white wine and I'm never sure which ones to buy at the wine store.
