The hugely popular book, many thanks to Oprah, "Eat, Pray, Love" has made its way to The Jam! In this episode, host Bridget McManus reviews the "irresistible, candid and eloquent" account of Elizabeth Gilbert's pursuit of worldly pleasure and spiritual devotion. So if you've been trying to find your path, maybe this book will help you do just that.
In this episode:
How can you not love Bridget? :D
I DO LOVE BRIDGET!
Cute video.
i've read the book...it's a very good read indeed.
P.S. Indonesia is in Southeast Asia...i can see it from my house ;p
I don't like fish.
I don't think I will pick this book up. I'm not looking for anymore spiritual enlightenment and I don't want to listen to anyone's self-indulgence in doing so=)
I had a good talk with my boss lastnight who just returned from a business trip to Thailand. He realized there that he needs to take better care of himself and love himself so that he can better take care of the people he loves. He said though that taking care of himself felt selfish. I guess the trick with self-discovery is that fine line between loving oneself and self-indulgence, and maybe that's why some people, like my boss and myself, have a hard time reading stuff like "Eat, Sleep, Pray." Maybe I'll give it a shot though. Oprah's usually pretty good at recommendations!
This episode gave a good synopsis of the book, even as I have not read it. For me, Bridget is a little exaggerated for my taste in the way she talks and her mannerisms.
I had heard about this book, and had thought about checking it out (after all, if Oprah recommended it, it has to be good, right?).
But I think I would prefer it if Bridget would just do mini-vlogs about each chapter. It might be more enjoyable than reading the actual book!
I don't think I'd read the book, but you have a good, basic, to-the-point summary of it. Just because Oprah the almighty blesses it doesn't mean it's so great. I like your style, Bridget.
I'm glad you discussed perspectives of both sides of people liking/disliking the book. I have read some books that Oprah recommended and I have to say that overall, I like them. One of my favorite "Oprah book" is called The Road. Anyways, maybe I'll check it out. I'm not that into spirituality that much as some people, but I'm into food. Something tells me that I'll like the Italy section of the book. =)
I'm firmly in the camp of thinking she's whiny and self-indulgent. But a lot of people said the book helped them, so I won't knock it.
I enjoyed the book immensely. Although that was a bit of a spoiler you revealed about the end, oops.
I never heard of this book until now. I'm not sure I would read it, but I love hearing Bridget talk about it!
Good review; funny and gives a nice overview of the book. Bridget seems to try a bit too hard here but still delivers well.
I just received the book as a gift and can't wait to read it. Great review, and hopefully I'll like it as much. I read the post about you revealing a spoiler, so I stopped your video a little short to not hear it.
Well the book doesn't sound like its for me, but good synopsis of the book. My mom will probably like it, thanks for the Christmas gift idea!
oooh.. another book i wanted to read, because of the link to india. the review certainly piqued my interest, but once again, it's not quite in depth enough for me. good overall view, but it left me wanting more. i guess that's a good thing.
I started reading this book and I got really stuck on the pray part. I agree that she was pretty self indulgent. I probably wouldn't recommend the book but I would recommend this video because it tells it like it is!
Bridget always manages to tell things at face value. I was one who needs to learn to love myself more so thanks.
Yes Bridget!i am going to buy this book today.I think this book will be useful for me.Again good job Bridget.
I have not read this book but it looks very interesting, i had no idea what it was about until i watched bridget explain
I kind of got lost with the review for this book, but Bridget also commented that some people thought the book was confusing so maybe that's why she kind of lost the pace a bit. I'm glad that Bridget covered how other readers react to the main character - being honest like that helps whether or not you fork over the $25 for the book.
What's wrong with a little self indulgence, especially following an ugly divorce? I think that whatever brings you back to center and sanity can't be all that bad, again it depends on how far you take it.
Good couple minute review. Enough to get me curious about the book and maybe buy it or get it for someone as a gift. What's not to like about a book about finding yourself (again)?
This is really helpful. I definitely would recommend this video. I might actually have to go out and read this book now to find out if it's true about finding spiritual enlightenment... or if she just wines a lot.
i like this video beaus i have read that book and i liked that book very much so ..its like attachment to this book,by the way this video was prey cool
Bridget is great, and adorable..but, although the book was mentioned here, and a few things that happened in it..it didn't give me any reason to look further than this episode. I had no desire to check out the book afterward even though it may be a good read.
This video just kind of gave me a rundown of what happens throughout this book, and now I have no desire whatsoever to read it. I am a Christian and I don't believe in going on a "quest" to gain "enlightenment" by traveling around the world. I love to travel and do so whenever I get the opportunity, but I only travel for fun. Perhaps if I took part in a different religion or did not have a religion, I might pick up this book. As it stands, I won't be reading this.
