About Me

Its all about the road.... Success and happiness have been my life's quest, and this quest has yielded tremendous rewards during the course of my lifetime. I would not begin to suggest that there have not been failures and learning opportunities along the way, but can sincerely say that each failure brought a lesson with it that benefited me on a personal level, and that the outcome thus far has been more satisfying than I dreamed possible in my youth. I am happily married and father to two boys and two girls. All grown and pursuing their own lives now.

I am a broad technologist by trade, and am currently writing web based applications and software. Most of my career span has been spent integrating technologies as a network engineer. I have been fortunate enough to have participated in the creation and development of two successful network companies, spent a period of time with the worlds largest network technology company, and in the process have made many wonderful lifetime friends.

Outside the circle of my work and family, the greatest and most satisfying ventures I have participated in have been those performed in the service of others. Building organizations, uniting communities of interest, and reciprocal mentoring have built for me a lifetime of precious memories that bring peace and contentment.

I made a new friend recently with whom I enjoyed a rousing discussion about mentoring and being mentored throughout our lifetimes. We are both fortunate enough to have acquired many mentors throughout our lifetimes, and he asked me if I had taken the time to contact any of those mentors to see how they were doing and just generally catch up. This was an interesting prospect which I am ashamed to say I have not done well at. Although I have done well tracking and staying in touch with those I had the opportunity to mentor, thereby respecting the "pay it forward" principle, I have not done well letting those who had the most profound impact upon my own personal development know how much I appreciate their sage counsel and wisdom during the times in my life when it was most needed.

I need to do better. These are people I love and appreciate and I want them to know that. I want them to know that I took to heart the things they taught me, and that I appreciate their taking their own time and energy to intervene with me in ways that they knew would benefit me. Those were selfless efforts with no more motivation than to simply enrich the life of someone else.

It looks like I have a new goal. What a wonderful thing. Its all about the road.

  • 7 Crucial Lessons for Personal Investors

I set a goal in early adulthood to acquire a million dollars in assets before retiring. It's no longer the lofty goal it was back then, but still a benchmark I want to have in my trophy case before walking away. I am confident I will get there someday; I just need to keep doing what works: thinking out of the box, searching for new opportunities, and listening to those that know.
  • Motorcycles, its a Zen thing

I ride motorcycles. But more importantly I also maintain my motorcycle. My father left me a great book before he died, its called Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. The book really isn't about motorcycle maintenance, its about life's successes viewed through the perspective of motorcycle maintenance. Its also about a whole lot more than that, I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good novel with a lesson behind it.
