Experience

"My mother gave me an incredible gift -- she spoke powerful language into existence -- calling me a genius long before I knew what that was. Her confidence in me enabled me to see my own brilliance at a very early age. I want to pass that on.”
Helping people become more of who they are is why I was born. Nothing fires me up more than inspiring, teaching and being a part of the transformation that takes place when I’m in a speaking or coaching environment. My coaching clients consistently say to me: “My life has changed in unimaginable ways because of my work with you. You’re not always my favorite person – but if your coach is your favorite person all the time, they’re not doing their job.” I consider that a compliment. At least I keep telling myself it is!
I played and coached professional basketball in Italy and Switzerland, and have endured my own share of highlights. I was captain on the undefeated NCAA championship team at the University of Texas at Austin in 1986. I’ll be inducted into the Hall of Honor this fall. I was also a member of the Houston Comet’s first WNBA Championship in 1997. What an incredible ride that was. My valleys? Well, my mother died unexpectedly when I was 16 years old. I was in Mexico as an exchange student at the time and her death was one of my defining moments to say the least. That experience has given me a unique perspective on life and human potential. When people ask me why or how I’ve been able to accomplish so much in my short life, I simply say, “I live life with the enthusiasm of a child and I refuse to let my tombstone read: I Wish I Had…”
These days I’m spreading possibility and spiritual enrichment whenever I get the chance. My energetic and heart-centered messages have been heard in more than 30 countries and 40 states including appearances at corporations, universities, high schools, women's events, spiritual retreats and business conferences. I learned to read when I was three years old and fell in love with words and language, which might explain why I’ve written more than 14 books including my latest, Will The Real You Please Stand Up?, which challenges us all to live more authentically. My company’s launching Collegepreneur?, the country’s first national business magazine for college students in the Fall of 2007 and a television show by the same name.
I’ve had an amazing broadcasting career including being an ESPN, Lifetime Television and FOX Sports announcer; the perfect training ground for what I’m doing today: hosting and producing my own TV shows. I’ve appeared in many national television and radio outlets including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, CNN Headline News, The Learning Channel, FitTV, Comedy Central and Oprah’s XM Radio Network. To maximize my brand in the marketplace (and yes, to stay in shape, and look and feel fabulous) I became a Certified Personal Trainer & Sports Nutritionist, and continue to work out five times a week no matter where I am in the world.
I consider myself a lifetime learner. I have the curiosity of a five-year-old and love exploring new places and things. I also have a BA and MA in Journalism and a Ph.D. in Business. What pumps me up each day is that my life’s work involves inspiring people to find peace, power and passion in their work, personal, and spiritual lives. My mantra is simple: You’ve got the power!
