Where do I start to describe this fantastic journey called life?
First of all, I’m about family. My wife and I began our relationship as high school sweethearts, and earlier this year we celebrated our 40th anniversary. We survived two separations along the way by taking personal responsibility for the contributions (good and not so good) we each made to our relationship. We have two daughters and four grandsons aged 13, 6, 5 and 3. Grand kids are the best, and my daughters and son-in-law are super too! I treasure my family because my mother died when I was three, and my father put my older brother and I into an orphanage - that event shaped both the good parts and the no-so-good parts of my life.
Next I’m about entrepreneurship. My career has had several major changes in direction. After earning a PhD in Nuclear Engineering at Rensselear Polytechnic Institute, I served ten years in the U.S. Navy refueling nuclear submarines during the Cold War. I left the Navy in 1976 and moved to Washington where I’ve lived ever since. I was Vice President of a software company, and Director of Consulting Programs for McDonnell Douglas. In 1984, I left McDonnell Douglas and started my own consulting company to help Federal agencies change how they do business. Last November, I sold that company and now I help small business CEOs grow their companies and improve their profitability.
Based on my professional and personal experiences with change, I recently published a book titled "Taming The Dragons of Change - 10 Tips For Achieving Happiness & Success When Everything Around You is Changing." The book offers new ways to think about and respond to change, to enhance relationships, and to take action each day as we face the inevitable new changes. I give business presentations on change, and appear on radio and TV as an expert on change. Checkout the book on www.dragonsofchange.com
My favorite recreational activities are traveling with my wife (we enjoy the Caribbean and exotic places), baseball (I’ve been a Yankees fan over 50 years and I’m starting to play in a seniors league), and scuba diving (my oldest grandson is certified too). On the intellectual side I enjoy chess and bridge.
