I’m coming up on 30, and I think I’m close to finding my path in life, but not quite there yet.
After 5 unhappy years of grad school, I’ve finally found a job I love working as a freelance science writer. Freelancing affords me the freedom I need, and science writing constantly leads me to new, fascinating ideas. Once an assignment is finished, it’s over, and I move on to the next story, which is great, because I thrive on new experiences and quickly get bored with routines.
My second big passion is music. I started playing trombone at a young age, and continued that through college, but then music dropped out of my life for awhile. In the last few years, I’ve been getting back into music, and recently started playing bass guitar with a band.
The third passion that keeps my life interesting is physical activity, especially hiking and camping, surfing, and martial arts. Running are working out are good too, but not as fun. I love being outside and occasionally testing the limits of what my body can do.
I something of a loner by nature, but I think that’s mostly because I have trouble finding people I can relate to. It seems like most people like to talk, or complain, about the details of daily life. Conversations about why the world is the way it is, or how we experience life are what really engage me.
