--MY STORY--
We’ve all got to start somewhere… We all have a moment when we know it’s time for massive change! This is the story of how I began my personal development journey in August 1998.
Desperation and inspiration collided to change the way I live forever. 1997 through 1998 were an all time low for me. I felt as if I had a broken record in my head repeating, "This can’t be my life…what happened?” In 1997, I went from outstanding student athlete to college dropout. I was confused about who I was and what I wanted in life. I moved back to my small hometown with my tail between my legs. My parents lovingly took me in, and I began working dead end jobs to make ends meet. I lasted about 6 months and I knew I had to do something…anything else. I enrolled in a nearby college and shacked with some high school buddies. In December 1997, my roommate and another close high school friend were killed in a car accident. We buried them the day before Christmas. When Gene died we lost the house, so I spent a couple weeks taking his belongings home and searched for a new rental. I was a mess, so I dropped out of college (again) to work dead end jobs. In March of 1998, my little brother rolled my parents car, and suffered 3rd degree brain damage. It’s a miracle he lived. Matt spent the next three years learning how to walk, talk and live again. My family reorganized their daily lives around supporting Matt. I made the fatal mistake of bottling all my confusion and pain inside. I wasn’t talking to anyone and had broken up with my wonderful four year girlfriend who was desperately trying to reach out to me. In May 1998, after a night of drinking, I had a one night stand resulting in an accidental pregnancy and the painful fallout with my ex girlfriend. I didn’t know how to make sense of all that was happening, but I was convinced my life was a disaster. I was in a downward spiral and couldn’t see a way out. My life was getting worse by the day.
I decided that I needed drastic change--pure desperation. Who I was and where I was going was unacceptable. The new broken record in my head was repeating, “There has to be a better way. Someone had to have gone through this before me right? Right?” I knew I had to make a break with my old thoughts and ways. I chose a major geographical and emotional move. I packed the belongings I could fit in my truck and moved 1200 miles from home. Day by day, I consciously removed the mindset and rules I had been living by in order to create space for new ideas, new possibilities...a new framework. At that time, I was financially and emotionally broke, sleeping on the floor of a friend’s apartment in San Ysidro California. I turned to the only place I could afford to get help. My best friend became the bookstore. My personal revolution began with a little book titled Life 101 by Peter McWilliams. From that day forward, I voraciously consumed the new ideas and information that enabled me to completely rebuild my psychological, emotional and physical life. Since that book, I've consumed over 100 personal development books, CD programs, trainings, certifications and seminars.
Armed with a new outlook, new tools, and a new way of living, I experienced and accomplished more than I had ever dreamed in five short years! My life transformed. I went from believing I was unlucky and life would be hard for me, to knowing that each major life challenge was vital to my growth and path! I went from living on a floor and eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, to buying my first home. I went from finding an ad in the local paper to be trained as a locksmith, to an IT Engineer for one of the top 100 companies to work for in the US. I went from bouncing checks and credit counselors to sharing ownership in 11 properties worth 4.5 million and a million dollar home on Mt. Helix. I went from college dropout to college graduate and with six professional credentials. I went from a self proclaimed disaster to unlimited possibility.
The new broken record in my head was repeating, “HOLY SHIT….THIS STUFF WORKS!!” It does. Like NOTHING I have ever experienced, personal development has ROCKED my life! The only other forms of life learning and experience that compare are the love and connection shared with our significant others, families, friends, spirituality and contribution beyond ourselves. However, to be outstanding in love and contribution it takes personal development. We don’t wake up one morning with these skills. We aren’t taught in school. We’re very fortunate if someone in our lives introduces us. In my opinion, social, academic and professional education are fundamentally different and hold a vastly different lifetime value.
Beyond my experience, I deeply appreciate the value of sharing this powerful gift. In the early years of my development, I thought, journaled and shared tidbits of this powerful information to a few select people in my life. 2003 was the year I fondly remember as the beginning of a massive shift and commitment to service. It wasn’t just about me anymore…I had to give back. I had to share this powerful information! 2004 & 2005 were amazing years of contribution. I had the pleasure of making a difference in the lives of those close to me, and those I'll never know. I was able to work with individuals, on small projects, and large projects in other countries. 2006 was a step up to a whole new mind and raising of the bar. I honed my vision and founded Versagy LLC. 2006 and 2007 have been the greatest years of training and growth in my life. AND THE GROWTH CONTINUES, LIFE KEEPS GETTING BETTER, MORE LOVE, CONNECTION, MOMENTUM, CONTRIBUTION, SERVICE, AND CREATION. No matter how large or small, the feeling is beyond words.
These wonderful experiences have led me to a certainty: I BELIEVE AT MY CORE THAT EVERYONE DESERVES THE CHANCE TO BE INTRODUCED AND OFFERED SUPPORT IN PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT AND TRANSFORMATION--AT WHATEVER LEVEL THEY NEED--RIGHT ON TIME. It is one of the greatest gifts anyone can SHARE or RECEIVE in life.
Since 1998, I have completely reorganized my life around sharing personal development. From volunteering, to founding my own coaching and consulting company. From serving on leadership training teams, core teams and councils to being a big brother. Sharing, Service and Contribution are at the heart of my mission today and I’ve never been more in love with what I do. This work is my passion—it is my purpose. I can't think of anything better than spending the rest of my life building this vision.
THE PURPOSE OF MY LIFE IS TO EMPOWER OTHERS TO DISCOVER GROW AND LIVE THEIR GREATNESS!
Are you ready to change the way you live?

Snags in Personal Development Part 1: The Wall
Tuesday, June 10, 2008 - 18:43I was recently talking with a friend and colleague about our years and travels in personal growth. We spoke fondly and proudly of breakthroughs, crashes and service. Then her voice changed…she got quiet and serious. She leaned into me and said, “Can I tell you something? I know all this is SO important and has been invaluable to my life.
