Parenting is not easy, that is one thing I know for sure. It’s nothing like I use to see on TV or in the movies as a kid, I guess that’s why there are so many parenting books on the market. Now one of the biggest challenges many seem to face is communicating with their kids. With all the parenting books I have read, I still needed help with that area. How to Talk so kids will listen and listen so kids will talk is a wonderful book. The book can bring peace to chaotic houses that lack communication skills. The authors provide easy to follow instructions on what to say and how to say it. Following the advice of the authors allows parents to not only become better communicators but teach their kids to effectively communicate. Now I have kids under 8 so I’m not in the teenage years, but hopefully with the knowledge I gained I can head off any major difficulties that may occur when my oldest hits 13 in 5 years.

I stink at communicating with my kids, and this is why this book was so helpful to me. I finished it last night for the first time, but I am certain I will be using it as a reference point from now on.

Teenage girls come with their own host of self esteem issues and peer pressure, add to the mix an elementary school child to rear and raise, and communication isn’t easy. This book not only helps me to bridge the gap with the teenagers, but how to relate to all three of the kids at the same time without having to say the same thing in three different ways.

The book focuses on building self-esteem with your children to connect on a deeper level. It’s so simple that it’s genius! I can appreciate the humor and personal references that Mazlish uses as it really helps to make these principals more applicable to day-to-day life. A must read for any parent of a child of any age!
