A tongue-in-cheek peek at modern parenting from a father’s point of view, this spoof is targeted at today’s career-minded mom and dad team. Breezy, irreverent humor escorts dads through basic topics such as home-from-the-hospital adjustments, post-partum dos and don’ts, diaper changing, feeding, difficult infant behavior, child-care choices, and the bustle of the pretoddler stage. Lightening up the serious business of being a 21st-century father, this book teaches dads that they don’t have to be perfect and shows them how to enjoy the different stages of a baby’s life.
I bought this book for my husband, hoping he find find it as funny as the title implied. we weren't disappointed, as the book was an absolute riot!
My husband seemed to thoroughly enjoy the book. I think it helped him feel better that he wasn't the only one going through so many changes and wondering if he can really handle the responsibilities. During the chaos of having a new baby, I think it might have helped him not feel so overwhelmed...or at least it was a break from all the chaos!
By combining helpful information with loads of humor, "Keeping the Baby alive till Your Wife Gets Home" is a great book for any new dad. I think the humor helps new fathers realize that not only can fatherhood be fun, but it SHOULD be fun. Warning: if you don't have a sense of humor, don't read the book! :)
The title alone is absolutely hysterical! I gave this to my husband while I was pregnant with our one and only child. He thought it was pretty funny. Some of the anecdotes are true-to-life funny and some are funny enough. Figuring Dads unlike the pregnant women do not share their feelings freely, they may feel that what they are feeling is not normal. I think a book like this helps them to realize they are not alone. All the craziness, absurd, wonderful, bone-tiring work involved with having a baby is all about survival; for both you and the baby and I think this book does a good job of lightening our load with its sense of humor. This is a good gift for every new dad. That is if he has the time to read it with a newborn. And if he does, he isn't doing his job....
