There is nothing more dysfunctional then being raised by a very conservative Baptist Preacher. While being raised in the family you know that you are dysfunctional but you just don't realize how much until you are grown up and looking back at your childhood.
My father screwed up my siblings and myself like you would not believe. As a result of the mental and emotional abuse all of us have had many problems as adults in our marriages.
My father had us all home schooled and as a result our social skills were barely there. I was so shy that I had to go into another room to change my mind. I'm now in my late twenties and still have a lot of problems in social situations.
Recently I started therapy and my therapist is just as big of reader as I am. In fact she has gone out of her way to find books that would do me a world of good to read. During one of my most recent sessions she handed me this book.
I smirked at the title and thought "what is normal." This book has really helped me in seeing that I am not alone. That there are so many other adults out there that don't realize just how dysfunctional their family was until older.
There is a reason why we do all we can to make sure that our children don't suffer the same fate that we do.
This book really felt like the author was sitting in my childhood home watching our family.
