Spiritual Divorce: Divorce as a Catalyst for an Extraordinary Life by Debbie Ford

In her new book, renowned workshop leader Debbie Ford shows how the devastation of divorce can become a profound transformation as we overcome toxic emotions and begin to open ourselves to the gifts of a new life, embracing its lessons of wholeness and serenity. Ford's own powerful story of divorce and the poignant experiences of many men and women illustrate her seven spiritual laws for healing—acceptance, surrender, divine guidance, responsibility, choice, forgiveness, and creation. Ford provides life-changing tools and exercises as she walks readers through a program of self-discovery, showing how it is possible to stop dwelling on what "should be" so they can live in the moment.

My parents got a divorce and I was very mad at them for it. Knowing what the church believes, that "spiritually you never can divorce" I was deeply hurt by their actions, but I found solace in this book. I, luckily was old enough to not blame myself, but I am so happy to have found this book and found a way to make the pieces of this divorce fit my religion and my conscious of just knowing my parents I grew up with are now separated forever. This book makes you take a self inventory of your life and makes you look at why things happen. Look at people's short comings, how they effect people, especially immediate family, and work to resolve it in your heart and mind. If you're going through a divorce, or you heart is broken because of one, this book is for you.

I received this book as a gift when I was suffering through the emotional depths of my divorce. I had been devouring books and articles on emotional recovery from divorce, and had even worn out a couple of friends in the search for my personal emotional recovery.

The advice in Debbie Ford's book "Spiritual Divorce: Divorce as a Catalyst for an Extraordinary Life" was fairly succinct. As Ms. Ford writes "Divorce is a process of letting go. For some people it happens in the first year; for others it takes longer. The Universe is there guiding us, and if we allow it, we will be taken care of."

This idea of the Universe as a God-like force for good in our lives, a sort of safety net against falling out of belief in ourselves, is a powerful and positive way to view the possibilities of life without the fetters of heartache and turmoil from a divorce.

If you are suffering through, or know of someone who is suffering through a divorce, I recommend this book and it's advice for a healthy and prosperous resolution to the emotional rollercoaster of divorce.

Good luck!

In ‘Spiritual Divorce’, Debbie Ford shares her own divorce experience, and discusses how it awakened her own spiritual side. It goes through seven steps to regain control and move past what can be a huge disappointment in your life. My own divorce was the most difficult and traumatic experience of my life. I was filled with a great deal of anger toward my ex-wife. I happened across ‘Spiritual Divorce’ and decided to give it a try, and I am glad I did! ‘Spiritual Divorce’ taught me to turn that anger into a positive and retake control of my life. Anyone who is going through a separation or divorce will find ‘Spiritual Divorce’ an invaluable source for moving on with their life. Whenever someone I know is going through a break-up, the first thing I do is buy them a copy of this book and encourage them to read it. So far not one person has been disappointed.
