John Bradshaw is one of the very best authors on the subject of dysfunctional family systems. In this particular book, he addresses the roles each family member plays within a dysfunctional family system and how we carry those roles throughout life until we recognize them and learn to change how we feel about ourselves.

All of John Bradshaw's books are a must for anyone who was raised by an alcoholic or drug-addicted parent, any victim of abuse, or for anyone raised in a strictly controlled environment. Actually, this particular book is probably the first of all of John Bradshaw's books that you should probably read. John Bradshaw's books were highly recommended when I was attending co-dependency counseling.

Very highly recommended. A great eye-opener, as well as a journey into self-discovery.
