This book was a gift from a former boss. Now that I have read this book I am sure that real salespeople would probably scoff at this title. But I am an introvert and I struggle to improve my people skills because they do not come to me as naturally as they seem to come to others. For me this book was a real help. Now that I am finished with it I can see that it is very basic, but some of the points it covered were new discoveries for me.

The book is quite short and a quick read. The reading is made even quicker by the author providing notes as the reader goes along, so there is no need to stop and take notes. The points that the author makes, and the story he tells to illustrate them, are all fairly simple. The language that the author uses is plain and clear. This makes the book a useful orientation for an absolute beginner like me.

I recently purchased a copy of this book from Kinko’s / Fedex and was interested in the book due to its catchy title. Spencer Johnson of course authored Who Moved My Cheese, which of course, in my opinion was a great book. So I’m not knocking the author, just this book. This was the most elementary sales material I have ever read or spent time reading. The entire book could have been summed up in one paragraph or “One minute” of reading time. The story was drawn out and boring. I thrive on any book related to sales for the most part and am into mostly any book written in my field, sales. But this was very dull. I would recommend this book to someone who is new to sales or a kid in Junior High or High School. This book would not be a good buy for someone experience in sales or at least partially experienced.

This is such an easy but fulfilling read. The short text can be considered an investment to anybody who is interested in doing sales, or simply in selling yourself and your ideas to other people or the general public. Spencer Johnson's ingenious way of allocating each chapter to a valuable lesson in sales and summarizing them in the end by using lists are great ideas in which to ingrain these sales tips to the reader. Furthermore, he has made the concept of selling much easier to understand by adopting a storytelling mode. His humanistic view on sales also gives the reader a sense of bigger purpose in selling--empowering the sales person to create valuable relationships, provide value through the products that he sells as well as built on his integrity and principles as a professional. It is useful to those aspiring to start a career in sales as well as veterans in the field who need to touch up on their skills. Very fascinating book!
