The power of words. The power of word of mouth. The number way to make money from free marketing.
I think Wordmaster is great for those looking to improve their vocabulary. But, the nine CD's was a bit overwhelming for me. Maybe I was not motivated as much as I originally thought, but I never made it past the third CD and became bored with the program. Also, I found that many of the words were not challenging and seemed to be words I already knew and believe that most people would recognize the words as well. I do think it is an interesting way to improve vocabulary for students, people learning English as a second language, or individuals more motivated than me. The method they use to teach the word is effective and I also liked the review section because I thought it reinforced the new words and committed the words to memory. Overall, this is a good program for those who desire to increase their vocabulary.
I found Wordmaster at a yard sale this summer. It is a set of 9 cd's that progresses from number one to nine.
It gives you lists of words that you can memorize. The good points are that it increases your word power, is efficient to listen too since it's not in book form. But the neutral points are that it can seem overwhelming when you look at the 9 cds at one time.
I would recommend this for students taking SAT's, ACT's, or who just wants to boost their knowledge. If you get overwhelmed easily I would recommend that you only take one cd at a time and listen to it in parts, working through it more slowly before moving up.
Now, as much as I love audio presentations, the 9 CDs in this pack made me a little cautious. Yes, I did really want to expand my vocabulary, but 9 CDs?! Was it really necessary? Well, I can tell you now that it was certainly worth it.
Each CD is a level up for a challenge - the words get stranger and more complex. This is nice because if the first level or few levels is/are to easy, you can just skip ahead. But you never know. Sometimes it's just nice to listen and be proud if you know a word.
Don't expect to memorize all of the words automatically upon hearing them. Although the system is great, you'll probably need to listen multiple times for everything to sink in. Otherwise, writing the words down, repeating a few in your head daily, and so on could help keep them in your memory.
A great purchase.
