The Secret by Rhonda Byrne

Fragments of a Great Secret have been found in the oral traditions, in literature, in religions and philosophies throughout the centuries. For the first time, all the pieces of The Secret come together in an incredible revelation that will be life-transforming for all who experience it.

You'll begin to understand the hidden, untapped power that's within you, and this revelation can bring joy to every aspect of your life.

Don't be naive, the secret is no gimmicky manipulative theory. The secret is the Law Of Attraction. For those that haven't done any research can be reluctant to believe the extreme fundamentals to this so called "Secret". The entire theory has been around for thousands of years and has been suppressed by leaders in major governments due to its ability to be controlled via human-conscious interconnectivity.

One of the first to write a book on this (Rhonda Byrne was not the first) was Charles F. Haanel entitled "The Master Key System" and is based on the Law Of Attraction and was published in the 30's. The law of attraction is based on human thought consciousness and to assess this process properly a manual, a publication or course should be taken to use these concepts with ease and motivation. The Secret has been a huge hit worldwide and has helped thousands reach their goals already. This book is essentially for everyone on the face of this planet.

I have to say, I did not read this book expecting much. It was recommended to me by a friend, and I’ve found that self-improvement books that are hugely popular are largely gimmicky and not all that helpful if you take the time to think things through. Unfortunately, THE SECRET was no different.

If you want to know what the secret that this book promises is without having to go through reading it, then here, let me spoil you. This lauded secret is that if you believe it will happen, it will.

No, really.

I suppose, though, that this book does show that Byrne’s secret can work. I’m sure that she believed that her book would become a huge success, and look! It has! This book is truly a brilliant piece of marketing, and I think that every Marketing 101 class should be forced to read it just for that. But it’s not a good self-improvement book.

Anyone who’s read self-improvement books knows about the power of positive thinking, and has either rejected the claim already or began using it in their life. There’s no need to read THE SECRET, when that is the secret.

We had a business a few years ago and one of our staff members gave us the audio version of this book. The thing that struck me the most was its simplicity. I hadn't heard of the book or Rhonda Byrne, but I had read all of the same books that she had used to figure it out. I had read Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich on the advice of Robert Kiyosaki. I had read The Science of Getting Rich on the advice of another author. Rhonda put these age-old philosophies into one "Law of Attraction" umbrella and suddenly everything clicked. My life hasn't been the same since then, I look at everything differently and choose to be more accepting, more grateful and appreciative and the people around me have noticed. I highly recommend The Secret.

I really enjoyed The Secret and continue to reflect back on it from time to time. I loved the concept of all things interlinking together in the universe. To me it seems very logical that energy and spirituality are completely entwined. I find myself going back to lessons of gratitude when I'm feeling out of sorts. The books contributors are all successful in their lives and the way they share their experiences remind you how on many levels we are all filled with limitless potential.

Is it a bit "New Age-Y"? Yes, it is, but it's relatable when the stories shared are based on everyday people. The book is for anyone interested in looking for inspiration in their daily lives.

I'm one of the few people who wasn't bowled over by The Secret. I became interested in this about the same time as "What the Bleep Do We Know" came out. I thought this would be as good as Bleep. I was wrong. It seemed to be a great deal of build up, which didn't really lead to anything.

That's pretty much it ... It's not really about anything. There is some discussion about setting intentions and so on. But I found that those intentions mentioned seemed to be much too centered on financial gain. Perhaps that was why I felt very little, if any, spiritual resonance with this.

I am truely frustrated with this book. I admitt, I was one of the ones who watched the Oprah episode that started all the hype. I read the novel and it annoyed me with all the build up and the attitude as if the secret was some scripture that would move the mountains and turn my house into an mansion.

Well sorry to spoil it but here it is; if you think it, what you want will manifest itself.

Wow there ya go. Was anyone as disappointed as I was? Was anyone kicking the walls and throwing the book as much as I was? It's aggrivating. But, none the less, they have ten dollars of my money and it's a wrap.

"The Secret" is an intriguing book that teaches a valuable lesson about redirecting your thoughts to be more positive. This book has been highly criticized, most saying that it is too idealistic, but in my personal opinion, those people are taking the book too literally. Nothing comes without effort. This book is meant to reinforce and encourage people to strive to be successful, the work is up to you. The book is a little over 200 pages, but I found that I read it in one day. I have noticed a difference in my life, I am more sure of myself and much less reluctant or not reluctant at all to go after what I want. This book is not intended for the lazy or the narrow minded, but if you can find time to just read this book with an open mind and listen to what it has to say, you are sure to achieve your highest level of success.

I got this off the bargain bin at a local store after hearing a lot of hype. To my UTTER amazement, there's no secret. I honestly don't know why this book did well except to say that the marketing is genius. Being an Internet marketer, there are three main words to move a product: Sale, Special, and Secret. Everyone wants to be in on secrets, everyone wants to be on the inside of the joke. There is no secret here except when you think positively, you grow positively. When you treat others kindly, you are treated in the same regard. I was really let down, I didn't like being talked down to and feeling like with every page turn I would be asked to buy something as it felt like an infomercial. Very poor.

This stuff is unbelievable! But, if you will ‘believe’ it, it will change your life, forever, like it has changed ours and of many more who have shared this secret! Let me share my experience with you –

One fine day my better half got this book named ‘The Secret’ from the library. He asked me to go through it as I like reading ‘different’ kind of books, and one of his close friends had recommended this one as ‘an awesome experience’! So, I went ahead with this one and voila - you will not believe if I tell you – it had hair-raising content in it from the very first page!

I kept my faith in it throughout and read it many times for it to get totally and thoroughly absorbed in me before I start applying it to my life. Many times I realized that ‘Oh! I know this!’, or ‘Oh! I always knew it, but haven’t applied it as yet!’, or may be ‘I have been always doing this but didn’t know it was so powerful!’. Yes, indeed. It awakens your innermost powers – Powers you have, which are lying dormant deep within you and you will never realize; till you read the eye-opener book and change your life forever.

Believe me, you will start believing in miracles and in this, that you are no less than a magician yourself! You have the power! Go on and unleash it…

I was not at all familiar with the Law of Attraction when a friend recommended this book to me as a sort of primer. It explained the Law of Attraction in a way that I could relate to and not dismiss immediately as "new age mumbo jumbo." The fact that so many authors, doctors, scientists, and other respected experts lent their voices to the book kept it from being boring. In fact, i was pleasantly surprised that it managed to be as entertaining as it was enlightening. I'll agree that, since the various contributors all have something to sell for themselves, The Secret sort of seems like an infomercial. However, as a newcomer to the Law of Attraction, without the listed references to the individual works of the collaborators, I'm not sure I would have known where to turn next. This is definitely a good choice for a gift to introduce somebody to the principles of the Law of Attraction.

Someone sent me a link to a movie called the Secret a few years ago. It was on every forum I belong to it seemed like. I didn’t want to watch the movie but was glad I did because it’s very uplifting. I found the book at a used bookstore about a year later. I thought it was ok and something to hold onto for later. A lot of times, certain books don't appeal to me at the time but eventually they do and I wonder why I let it sit for so long. I think it is definitely a hit or miss book but if it doesn’t hit you now, it may later. For some people it’s just the same New Agie hype wrapped together but for a lot of people its total inspiration. Anything that is helpful and optimistic to someone is good in my opinion. It is kind of like a beginner’s book and you choose where you go next. It's hard to get passed the feel good point of the book.

This book was recommended to me by a friend who told me to get the DVD or book, either one. I hate to admit it, but, after reading this book (and I did read the whole thing hoping it would save itself in some way), I have a little less respect for my friend (and I told him this too!). Not to be mean, but this book really read like an infomercial, like they were selling me something. And, not to spoil the fun for anyone else, the "secret" is not a secret at all. I have known about the law of attraction and positive thinking for as long as I can remember. I will admit that there were some good points to the book and I do feel that positive thinking is a power most people have yet to tap into; however, this whole book's appeal is that you are going to learn something you did not know before reading it. This is not the case, at least not for me. I would not recommend this book to anyone. That may sound harsh, but it is truly how I felt after wasting my time reading it.

If I could give it a lower rating, I would. Perhaps the only good thing about this book is that I didn't have to pay for it, thanks to the library! It's rare that I will put any book down once I've started to read it, but it was a true struggle to finish this one. It's hard to know which reaction was my first- whether to scoff at the idea that there was anything revolutionary in this book, cringe at the mishmash of cultures and thoughts that were tossed together without any care for context, or laugh at the watered down feel good-you can do it advice. Taken at face value, the Secret's philosophy is almost dangerous- it asks us to 'visualize' a better life for ourself but spends precious little time mentioning that we'll have to work hard to realize that life. So please, find a better book to spend your time with- or if you're really serious about changing your life, just go out and do it.

Many people who read this book and/or watch the movie think that these concepts aren't new ones. For the most part, I would agree with that. What I loved about the book is that it took the fundamentals of, 'thinking positively' and put them, quite eloquently, into one place.

It's a very easy read that awoke my spirit and has readily retrained my mind to see the good in things. Instead of worrying about whether the light is going to turn red and therefore make you late for work, you only have to see the light green and think about how that will make you feel. The more you can think about it and the more energy you give, the more you'll get out of it.

I think this is a phenomenal book to have in your collection. Even if you only read bits and pieces at a time, it always makes me smile and reminds me that the power in in my own thoughts!

“The Secret” is not really a secret. Many people before Rhonda have spoken about the law of attraction, which is precisely what the book is all about. What makes it especially attractive is its alluring title, and of course, the beautiful way it is written. Especially delightful are the set of quotes by successful and distinguished personalities.

The technique of positive thinking outlined by this book wasn’t new to me. However, the writer’s way of explaining things was totally unique. The other writers hadn’t put it so simply, but Rhonda had. “Thinking isn’t enough,” she says, “Believe that you already have it.” The formula is so simple actually. Believe that you already have what you want to have, and presto, you shall have it. For those who want a very simplified, easily digestible explanation of the laws of attraction, Rhonda’s “Secret” is the best. The book really inspires you to put into practice what you have read and achieve what you want to achieve.

The book the Secret had been generating a lot of buzz especially once it was on the Oprah show. I had heard about the Secret for awhile, but did not really believe in the hype of it, and was very skeptical. One day when I was feeling really down, I decided to buy it for myself, I read it cover to cover that night. Even though I have not seen some major transformation as yet in my life, I think the book is very positive and uplifting and if you put some of the practices into your everyday life, it will lead you to have a more positive outlook on your life. Since reading the Secret, I have bought it for several friends and they have also enjoyed the positivity of this book.

I saw the movie and was inspired by it. Then I saw that they had this book. I was excited. I thought it would contain more information on the law of attraction. It didn't. It was as if they had taken the screenplay and put it into a book with a few omissions. And yes, there was one tiny part that was new about weight loss. If you have seen the movie, then this book isn't worth it, unless you want a hard copy of the information. I have the movie, so I found the book to be a waste of money. And I have found in my research that there are books from the 1500's teaching these concepts. it is not new. Although, if I hadn't been introduced to it by the movie, I may have never known. The concepts are truly life changing. I do think it is very money centered though. Money doesn't make a person happier, it just makes life easier. I would recommend "The Game of Life and How to Play it", or the books written by Esther and Jerry Hicks.

I stumbled on this book at the library one day. It is a great introduction to the power of our minds, to the idea that we are all connected in some invisible way and that we deserve to live lives of joy and abundance.

This book really started me down the path of abundant living and has helped me create some amazing changes in my life already - more money, more time, and less stress are just the beginning.

I will caution readers that this book is a condensed and simplified version of this ancient wisdom of the Universe, but it is a good beginning and from it you can explore the other ideas and philosophies of the different teachers presented.

Yes, it's popular, it's all over the place. It even has a movie, I think. I honestly think that the mind is very powerful, and your positive thoughts can affect your life for the better, but I just can't digest the concepts in this book.

The Secret is very similar to positive thinking, but its taken the concept too far into the realm of fantasy.

Want that cool car? Why, just ask the universe and it will drop a Tesla on your backyard if you believe enough, maybe.

As a rational person, I believe that positive thinking can lead to good things because you are giving your conscious effort to change your attitude and outlook in life. The Secret will tell you that the a cosmic force in the universe is like a bell boy for your thoughts, where all you need to do is attract fame and fortune, then let the cosmic bell boy deliver the goods.

It preaches about abundance, where wealth and happiness overfloweth thy cup. That's just so wrong to me. Look at the world and see how tough the competition is around you. I really don't like books that give hope to lazy people who just want to lie around all day and visualize about getting what they want.

This Secret is certainly worth exploring. I have not seen the movie yet but I am delighted with my decision to buy this book. There is nothing new in this book. There is nothing that will need you to radically change the way you think or behave. The genius of this book lies in its simplicity. The book tells you what you have been doing so far, and asks you to do the same going forward (positive thinking). It only asks you to try and stop having negative thoughts. The Secret is out and I am sure many people will benefit from it. I am on my second reading of the book and trying to adapt a lot of it in my life. I have not seen the changes yet but I am surely more positive now in my outlook which is a gain of sorts. This is a good book and everyone should read it. I am now planning to watch the movie too.

The best thing I can say about this book is that it’s melodramatic and that’s not really a compliment. Those who love this book are convinced that by reading it you will dramatically change your life. Insert dramatic music here. Unfortunately, I found it to be rather boring and overplayed. All of the earth shattering secrets the book proclaims to give you are really just daily affirmations and the power of positive thinking. I was expecting something innovative and revealing. All I got was a rather bland book that seemed to be trying to hard to be mysterious. Overall: I can’t see myself ever recommending this book to anyone. I’m glad it was a gift rather than something I paid for. Although, I guess the old adage of you get what you pay for really came true. It also made me reconsider how much I had in common with the friend who gave to me. After all, if this really changed their life, I’m not sure we really have all that much to discuss. I gave this book one star becasue you can't give it anything less.

I first saw the movie for The Secret and immediately started thinking, "hey maybe they are onto something here." So, I picked up the book because I wanted to read more and have found that everything in that book has truly helped me in my life. I know that sounds crazy to many, but it's true. Positivity will breed positivity and Negativity will breed negativity. It's completely logical: if you're mad at one thing, other things seem to tend to go wrong if you keep dwelling on what went wrong in the first place. Stub your toe when you're leaving the house so you get so upset and angry thatyou can't find your keys which makes you late for work, etc... it's a cycle and the Secret helps you break that by showing you ways to stay positive when negative things happen.

This book has touched my life and the life of my now fiance'. the secrets revealed in this book will change someone's life completely. Byrne basically teaches how that if we change our thought patterns, that we will change our lives. I agree completely with that. I have put this book to use in my personal life nad in relationships. It has taught me alot, and changed my life alot. She also gives us examples and how to's for many of life's situations. She also shows us Bible passages to help support some of her claims. It is basically about faith and thoughts. We need to put away negative thoughts and replace them with faith, and good thoughts. I love this book, and would highly reccomend everyone to buy and apply it to your lives. It works.

Its a superb book with the best laws of the universe, which changes your life & the way u think about it,like always being positive even in the worst scenario of life.
According to the book one can apply the law to achieve anything he/she may desire by focusing on it & manifesting & attracting it , which is the law of attraction.
I have read the book thrice & have even watch the video, and recommend every one to read the book atleast ones in their life.

The Secret is a hit or miss book. It all depends upon your beliefs and how you choose to take it. I personally found it very informative and keep it at hand. It contains quotes and stories from many teachers of the Law of Attraction and how they make it work for themselves. The chapters each cover something different ranging from Love to Health, ending each chapter in a quick summary. It’s very easy to flip to the portion in which you need uplifted about and read.

While I’ve read this book multiple times and I call it a favorite, the info inside isn’t some new found Secret. There are many other books out there that contain this information. However, I find the fact that a large amount is contained in this one book very handy for a quick pick-me-up. Also, if you’ve seen the film, the book probably won’t impress you.

My husband and I heard from some friends one evening--they had something they wanted to give us that would CHANGE OUR LIVES!!!! We were dying of curiosity! We told them to come right over, of course, and what was this life changing gift--'The Secret'.

Well, what can I say? For me, this was a commercially slick-packaged version of the legitimate teachings of the former Church of Religious Science (and of many metaphysical churches). 'The Law of Attraction' 'Change your thinking, change your life.' 'Believe it and you will receive it.' These are not revelations, they are not even fresh ideas, and they are certainly not a secret. They are, however, part of the daily religious beliefs and practises of many.

I gave this a rating of one, because if there are still people who have not already heard of these concepts (evidently there are based on sales of the book and DVD, and promotions from celebrities), then this is a somewhat entertaining way to learn about them.

However, you could do just as well (no, better) by reading the fine works of Ernest Holmes, Louise Hay, and many other spiritual leaders/writers, and trade substance for the hoopla and hype of 'The Secret'.

I do not recommend this book.

The "secret" is really no "secret" at all. These metaphysical and slightly esoteric axioms are as old as Moses. What's new is the "da Vinci Code" like packaging and marketing. Both the video along with the book are fantastic for someone who is unfamiliar with the laws of positive thinking, which do indeed have as much scientific veracity as do the laws of gravity.

Contrary to what pessimists say, the book does do more than espouse paltry Pollyanna principles and it does have more depth than ditzy Dorothy clicking her heels and wishing for home.

However, if you've been there, done that, and are looking for something a little less packaged for the mainstream of self-sabotaging unbelievers, then you will be disappointed at the lack of any "new" and inspiring information on unleashing the powerhouse of spiritual force lying dormant within the beauty of our lives.

"The Secret" is a scam written by somebody who promotes the Santa Claus technique....ie. wishful thinking. It's a huge setup for heartache. What happens when life just happens and it's not what you wanted? You are left feeling guilty, like you did something wrong, like you'll never get it together, and just plain depressed. Save your money.

The Secret is about using your mind to focus on what you desire and by doing so, you attract what you desire into your life. This is a very powerful concept once it is understood and can dramatically change your way of thinking and behaving.

This book doesn't suggest that by simply thinking about something you can will it into being, but more that by focusing your energy on what you desire out of life, you are more likely to achieve it.

After reading this book, you will understand the danger of negative thinking and the power of positive thinking. It's all about making things happen in your life by directing positive energy into the outcome.

Read this book and you will find yourself moving towards a healthier way of thinking and in turn you will see positive changes occuring in all aspects of your life.

The Secret was the first law of attraction book I bought. It came at a time when things in my life were confusing. I had just quit my job, had plans to move to a new state and my husband and I were always arguing. My friend in another country was always talking about "the secret" but I really did not understand what she meant. It took me a few months to understand what she was trying to tell me. I would see the book everywhere - on websites, TV, on displays! It was calling to me. This book and its many teachers tells you your thoughts attract things both negative and positive. I had to look at life differently and only think positively. There was happiness everywhere around me, and I was the only one making myself unhappy. I had a great home, family, and life. Yes, my job was making me miserable and getting out of that negative space was my first step toward happiness. I had to put the bad thoughts behind me and move forward. This book encourages you to list the things you are grateful for everyday, and when I did that it was amazing to me how lucky I was. I noticed since I was happier people around me were happier. This book if anything is a real eye opener to the way you treat people, and how you want to be treated. The basic concept is positive energy brings positive flow into your life and negative spawns negative. I have read it more than once also, and I have practiced many of the teachings in it. I truly believe my life has changed because of it.
What did I do with the second copy? I wanted to make sure it went to somebody who really needed it as I did. My sister in law lost her job before Christmas and has had illness in her family so I gave it to her as a Christmas gift. I know I made the right choice when I saw her reading it as soon as she opened it.

This book was interesting. I only read it because of all the hype I was hearing about it. I was very curious to see exactly what the secret was. It wasn't a secret after all. It basically says that if you want something, you ask the universe for what it is you want. There are certain steps to follow to get what you want, like visualizing what it is, and seeing yourself with what you want, acting like you already have it, etc. I thought it was an interesting idea and concept, and grudgingly admit I have asked the universe for some things from time to time. Basically, the power of positive thinking will make things work out for you. I can't say whether or not it completely works, but it definitely gives a more positive spin to things in life.

I would have been shocked to be the first to review this book. Its many reviews speak of the fact that The Secret is popular by any standard. But the secret of The Secret is you have to be ready for it.

Aptly titled, no one can use a secret unless they know what to do with it. True, some of the most successful people have contributed to what could be called a compilation, but how is this compilation going to make YOU join the success bandwagon?

Secret is to be read with introspection and recommended widely. You never know who is ready! One of my friends calls it the Bhagwat Gita, which is a hallowed Indian scripture. Rhonda would never have dreamt her work would one day be placed there! Now if there's something to learn from her success, I'd suggest you keep an open mind about the information this book will provide.
