I would recommend this book for anyone wanting to answer the question, "What am I here for?" This book describes everyone's purpose in life according the scripture of Jesus and other important figures. I learned of this book while watching a special presented by Joel Olsteen, and have been hooked ever since. Spiritually uplifting, and very helpful in my walk with Christ.

My grandmother gave this book to me when I was 15. When I first started reading, I realized that it could very well change my life. It answered a lot of questions I had and reaffirmed my faith. A lot of what Rick Warren had to say stuck my mind. It's a well-organized book and it will put into perspective a lot for any Christian. Keep in mind, this is more of a book for born-again Christians rather than people just interested in learning about the Christian lifestyle. It seems to be a workshop for followers looking to improve their relationship with Christ and the church. It covers every aspect of a Christian's life including prayer, community, values, mindset, and much more. I've reccomended it to friends and family. Only problem is, I only read it once and it was several years ago. When I first began reading it, it sucked me and I was so eager to read the next chapter. The Purpose Driven Life is best read consistently over a period of time, and the author urges you to take it slow so you can digest everything. I still have the book, but rarely get around to reading anymore. Someday I'll go back and read it again, and I know I won't regret it.

You ever been alone and had a sudden light bulb go off in your head? This is exactly what this book does. Rick Warren is up there on my list of favorite authors and this book did not dissappoint.

I won't lie, I have doubted my reasoning for being on this Earth and it was difficult to find the answer. My own father suggested this book to me and I gave it a try. Yes, the book does use Christian values but it is not saturated in context. This book helps you take your current situation in life, gives you the Christian faith and helps you see why you've been placed on this planent. We all have a reasoning and a way and I can say for certain I know what mines is. The morals it teaches is great and helps you choose from right and wrong in everyday life.

I suggest this book to the old and young. If you're stuck in life right now, wandering around in the dark, this book is a great source of light for you to see the brighter days.

Sooner or later every one of us wonders why exactly are we here on this earth? What's the point of it all?
In our country we all seem to be searching for something and this book has been selling since it's release date. It is without a doubt a Christian related book. But even those who do not believe in God have picked it up and read it.
Personally when I first read it I wasn't very open to it. I was bored and actually kind of mad that the Church I was attending was having us go through it as a study.
However the time did come where I picked it back up and re read it. The second time around I was able to find some help in seeing why I was here.
Honestly though this book does something that the Bible has been doing since the day it was written. If you want to know what God wants out of your life there is no need to buy this book. Just open up your Bible and Study. However if you aren't a Christian and just simply want to know the answer to this question, well then buy this book.

My mom, the church secretary, gave me this book to read and told me that perhaps it would help me to find the answers I had been seeking in my life. The book exudes passion for Christ and is a great resource if you want to know how to take Biblical ideas and Christian values and use those as a means of living out your life. If you want someone who has thought out how to put Christian values into action, this is your book. That's specific to anyone who values Christian values and not just Christians; if you're able to get behind the idea of loving God and loving others as yourself, this book will help you in finding answers to how to incorporate that as a purpose.

But, if you're searching for something greater or something different or you feel like that's just a small point of view in the greater scheme of life, I think you'll find this book to be frustrating. I'm the type who gets frustrated by any religion trying to make my life make sense just from their religious point of view, and this book didn't hold much value for me as a result. I know my mom, however, would highly recommend this book.

When I first received this book I thought to myself, Oh Yes now how in the world can this book help me? Well I have to admit it actually has helped me in a number of ways. My mom has actually purchased me tons of self help books knowing my life isn't perfect and being my mom always trying to find answers for me, my life has actually been pretty crazy since I was a kid, however today I can say things have changed, they've changed because of the facts that I've taken in what writers like Rick Warren have said. This book has taught me that there is meaning to my life as well as everyone's, you have to believe and know that indeed we do need God. I have learned to put my troubles in his hands, and not to dwell on the things in which I cannot change or fix. Prior to me reading this book I can honestly say I was a wreck, a wreck because I had lost hope, I felt like there was no getting better. This book literally lifted my spirts from the point of zero to about a high 8. I look forward to brighter days now, even when there seems to be a bad day, it's me and only me who can make my day a better one. I no longer have to live in the world with twenty four hour worries. I live today for today and I know that there will be a tomorrow.

This book is decidedly Christian, so as a Christian and with the endorsement of several friends, I read it. I'll say this word sums up the book: journey. This is not an adventure book in traditional sense, but quite a suburban adventure. It raises questions that all of us seek out at one point or another...why are we here, what are we made for? I think obviously the answer is to love others as yourself. This book as a more religious tone to that, but, that is the answer. 20 million copies can't be wrong? I think its mainly a testimony that over the last 5 years our culture and country have been searching. Searching for what is good, what is right, what to do, and what it all means. This book ties it all up and puts a bow on the topic (which I do not like) but there are definitely some gems strewn throughout the pages.

I am sure many have experienced the same thought, why am I here and what is my purpose in life? Life is very overwhelming, and with the way things are happening today we have many questions about our worth, and wellbeing. After reading the Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren, I came away with the answers I had been looking for. Many I new but did not implement in my hectic day to day routine. When Rick Warren says the starting place must be with God and his purpose for each of us, he is right. Right from the first chapter I was brought to tears in how this book affected my life. I know it would bring about change that I needed to get through each day. I especially liked how he wrote it to be used as a 40-day personal spiritual journey. I will admit there where some days that I did two chapters. Just because of the impact it had on me. I was able to see how much God loved me, and just where I fit into his plan in this world filled with so much turmoil. I have not only reread the book several times, I have also purchased the book for others as gifts. When I finished this book I knew what my mission was in life, and began implementing changes that corresponded with it. .

The Purpose Driven Life wasn't just some self help book that made me feel good while reading it, but genuinely helped me to have a peace that I am doing with my life what I should be. Rick Warren does speak openly about his faith and how it correlates with living our lives with purpose, but there was very little I could find in the book that doesn't apply to anyone (things like prioritizing relationships, becoming comfortable with who we are, and utilizing our personal gifts and talents). Many of Warren's points were things we all know are important but very few give enough priority to, and he articulated those points in a way that will stay with me forever. The book is designed to be read over a period of forty days, one chapter a day, and the design is genius! I would highly recommend this book to anyone wondering how to make the most and the best of their life.

Delightful Book for the Devout

Obviously, Rick Warren lives a life based on the teachings of the Bible. He rarely makes a point without quoting from the scriptures. His solutions to meaningful living are purely Christian and, therefore, will appeal only to the faithful or those who are simply curious to know what the faithful think.

The book has forty chapters, perhaps because it is a biblically significant number. And the way the book is organized pinpoints the fact that the writer intends you to chew and digest each chapter, highlight what touches you, make your own notes in the margin, and have a short reflection at the end of it. The book’s message is that human existence is not accidental; it is a divine plan for a particular purpose. You are here because God wants you to be here.

Devout Christians who want something to meditate on will find this book a delightful spiritual exercise. And if you aren't a devout Christian who believes the Bible to be infallible, you will have a difficult time agreeing with Rick Warren.

Everyone is complicated in his/ her own way, but for a book, which seemed to me to declare its ability to simplify matters, it failed. It was a good read and I did apply some of the information I read to everyday life, but overall I hoped it would help me to define my role in life. maybe that's the problem; if you want to still have a say so in defining yourself you wont find much use in this book; however if you are willing to concede your image of this life and thrust yourself out to God than you'll probably find peace and contentment after reading A Purpose Driven Life. I really should not be offended by statements in the book like, “We are planned for God's pleasure", but maybe it's the rebel in me that cries out for a different meaning to everything I've struggled through. I also found it hard to take in whole chapters at once and had to reread several pages when I would pick the book up again. Overall, I cannot find myself more than a little disappointed because I got such a good price at the antique store.

Regardless of my faith, or lack thereof, I read this book just to give it a fair chance.

I have to say that this book is really powerful if you are a devout Christian, or if you are a Christian on the brink of losing your faith. Either way this will benefit Christians greatly.

This work is one of the few books I know, that really requires the reader to take immediate action. You are required 40 days of focus and devotion to answer the age old question, "What is my purpose on Earth?" Along the journey, you will learn a lot more about the Bible and the after life in a few days, faster than 10 years of listening to your pastor.

The book is full of Bible verses that Warren expounds on with his unique voice and insight. You can feel Warren's passion and sincerity in every word written in the book, because he took great care not to use fear-mongering techniques, instead he appeals to emotion and the human thirst for that sense of purpose.

It's a great book for Christians with different levels of faith. For a non-believer, it's merely just a curiosity.

My aunt recommended this book to me. She and my uncle were taking a class in church on this book. They had never before talked to me about a book so I got it out of curiosity. I read the book front to back. I started to do the workbook, but didn't complete it.

Rick Warren's point of view was just too predetermination oriented for me. The book took each aspect and built it upon the concept that God has a purpose for your life and you need to allow God to direct you. I believe in following God's will, I just had real issues with the idea that I had no choice in where I would end up. Like my destiny was in some way set and I needed to accept and make the best of it.

So many people have talked to me about how they got so much out of the book; perhaps I was just in a different mood when I read it. I may re-read it in the future and see if I like it any better. I would recommend people reading it, as it’s an easy reading book in terms of organization and example stories. The workbook was thought provoking and it did offer the opportunity to discuss the topics with others. In a world where it is difficult to have honest conversations with people, this alone is worth the read.

For a book that made such a big splash in the news and on the bestseller list, this book is remarkably basic. There is very little new information in this book at all and seemed to be entirely common sense. The basic concept is that instead of living your life aimlessly wondering why you aren't going anywhere, you should shift your focus to God and find a way to apply your life to a purpose that pleases Him. The author believes that if you redirect your focus to God, you will naturally find a direction in your life, one that fulfills you and serves others. There is nothing in this book that isn't learned in any Sunday school classroom in the country. Save your money, go to church.

The Purpose Driven Life is a grand plan of God’s desires for your life, but often are little more than platitudes which are easily agreed to, and any Christian would be aware of. I read the book and found myself in almost complete agreement with what he said, but walked away learning little. Its not that the book isn’t well organized, or well written, but as serving as a devotional or spiritual uplift, it failed. I believe that many people who were not raised in the faith, or who have only a superficial knowledge of it, may gain from the book. But unfortunately, I found that it was not worth the price, and I paid full value when it first came out. Perhaps a discount copy would be a good investment, for someone who is looking to try it out. Depending on who you are, it may be worth the effort.

This book is awesome and excellent!!! So many times in todays world we can so easily lose sight of who we are and what our purpose in life is.

This is a journey through a study format giving you so much to work on each day. Giving ample time to digest the portion for the day and give thought to the principle.

When Mr. Warren wrote this book, he studied a vast amount of material to compile the thoughts, and purpose. He makes the reader feel like they are a friend who's having a conversation one to one instead of the author talking to the population.

Anyone who reads this book will walk away with a life change.

The Purpose Drive Life, by Evangelical "leader" Rick Warren, is a soft-ball attempt to explain God's purpose for our lives. It's a 40 day lesson plan for spiritual growth, and presents the reader with 5 purposes, like why you were planned, why you were shaped, why you were formed. All synonyms of the same word. You may have come to know the book from the infamous story about Ashley Smith, the former drug addict who read a passage from this book to calm her deranged, murderous captor (she also gave him crystal meth). I found this book dumbed down the Christian message, and came across as condescending to those of us who are interested in going beyond the surface. The book was too seeker-friendly for my taste, and I felt it obscured the true saving and redeeming power of Christ. The book is an easy read but, ultimately, not a fulfilling one.
