Zig Ziglar focuses on the art of persuasion in sale, and provides tips from successful salespeople.
I am not a salesman, nor have I ever wanted to be one. I really hate the thought of being approached by a salesman, but I picked this book up years ago when I was a VISTA volunteer for a non-profit organization. I wanted to learn some techniques for talking with people one-on-one about a donation product I was working with. Zig Zigler's book was a great help. He gives you ideas of how to present yourself and how to find out what people want so you can sell it to them. He focuses on the customer and what they want as the beginning. He then shows you how to sell by giving them what they want. I know there have been others to write books similar since then, but Zig Zigler is still the best salesman in my oppinion. His book is filled with funny stories and he makes his system clear and easy to follow.
I just don’t. I found this book rife with principals and tactics that are used up, and just don’t work. Truth be told I’ve never been a big fan of Mr. Ziglar, even though he is such a renowned author. His methods are trite and too high pressure for my particular style, and the only thing I enjoy about his texts are his euphemisms and story telling capability.
I am certain that for it’s time it was the end all be all of sales tactic reference books, and I am certain that it helped a lot of professionals meet and exceed sales goals, just not me. Zig focuses too much and too hard on the actual close itself, and that just doesn’t mesh with my philosophy. As a multi million-dollar producer I was sorely disappointed in this particular text.
If you are a subscriber to old school philosophies of high-pressure sales then this is a perfect book for you, however, if you cater to a more sophisticated technique I would suggest looking elsewhere.
I bought this book when I was an up and coming sales person. I enjoyed this book. It is another book that does indeed require study instead of just a read. It is very well written and full of illustrations that come to life as only Zig can do. From a practical and economic perspective, I used the information in this book to go out and close sales. Immediately after memorizing 10 closing techniques from this book, I went out on a sales call. I put these techniques to the test in the real world. Right then and there, I used all 10 of these memorized closing techniques to successfully close the sale and I never had to drop price, not even once! This meant more commission in my pocket. I urge you to not only buy this book, but memorize Zig’s techniques. This is the “Bible” of selling.
Though I have heard a lot about Zig Ziggler, I have not gone to any of his seminars. But I feel I can get his teachings through books. The secrets of closing the sale is not just about closing the sale. This book talks everything about sales and all the other things related to it. Though I know about sales quite a bit, after reading this book I realized that I dint know the basics of sales. Many times we dont know the basics of sales and that the reason we fail most of the time. Though we cannot avoid failure we can cut down on our failure rate if we understand what the author is talking about. There is whole chapter called heart of sales career. It would be really interesting and also useful if we try to apply it. In that he talks about the E factor. You got to read this book to know whats it about. And not only that it also talks about Attitude towards yourself and towards others. The author not just gives one way of sales/ closing the sale but multiple way we can apply/use his methods. This is really boost for my sales career. And I would recommend this book to everyone.
If you belong to the sales profession, there's no way you can discard this book. If you do not, a quick read will make you a smoother operator - with your boss, your kids, your helpers and with people in general. This is not to say that sales people are smooth operators, but let's face it; everything in life is about selling - an idea, request or plan.
Zig shares more secrets about words, phrases, approaches that work than anyone else ever published. Might sound like a tall claim, but you challenge me after reading this book. Given his vast experience with people - both as a speaker and a salesman - he has covered every kind of attitude you are likely to encounter. Of course, it will be difficult to remember every solution at the right time, but even if a few come to mind when appropriate, you would feel mighty!
