This book is an absolute must for beginning writers. Even if you are not to the point of searching for a publisher, I would recommend this book. The step by step directions for finding a market, courting an agent and approaching publishers will set you on the path to finding your niche.
The information from published authors is the first step, learn from their mistakes. You will get an idea of what sells, and what does not, so you can tweak your project if necessary. Then, pay close attention to the information on editing and finding an editor, because that may be the most important step you take in getting published.
When you approach literary agents and publishers, you want to be as professional and polished as possible, this book will help you get there, and instruct you in the tricks to making sure your work does not end up in "the slush pile"!
I found the information on finding the right publisher to approach saved me a lot of paper, stamps, time and rejections. It helped me narrow down my target publishers to those that actually might have some interest in my project. I still had a lot of rejections, but a high number of personal responses with comments on how to improve my work. That was a big help, and I'm sure it was because I used the principles presented to find people who really were interested in what I was writing.
If you are on the road to being published, this book is a great companion!
