I've been having panic attacks since I was about seven. I've been to doctors and psychiatrists, and no one could make them better. My husband bought me this book some years ago, and it's one I've read countless times since. Getting through a panic attack isn't easy, but this book laid out some pretty clear methods for riding it out and lessening the severity.
What I love is that the book puts the success in my hands. Panic is my body's reaction to a (mis) perceived danger, but I learned that I don't have to let my fear of what's happening run away with me. The exercises for recognizing the fear when it comes on, acknowledging it, and then letting it go was one of the most helpful things I've ever read on the subject. It doesn't always work, unfortunately, but every little bit counts. This will always be one of my favorites.
