This book was given to me in order to help me cope with the loss of my beloved wife. I will forever be grateful to my friend for having given me such an appropriate life-line during one of the most terrible episodes in my life. Why does it seem that women are much more adept at understanding loss and grieving openly? I don't know, but I thank God that a woman such as Carol Staudacher decided to write down her sage advice for the rest of us to follow. Throughout the book, at the top of each page, there are statements, such as "I don't know where I will end up" or "I don't get it, I don't understand life." Following each statement, Carol explores the reasons behind it, delving into why we feel that way and most importantly, how to overcome each statement of loss and confusion by understanding it, dissecting it, and ultimately, resolving it. But it doesn't happen overnight. The reader is guided, instead, over the following days, months and even years by the words of truth, wisdom and comfort given by Carol. As a man, I had initially attempted to bury my emotions of grief, a thing I suspect many men and women might try to do. But after reading this book, I learned that stuffing one's grief is a sure way to harm oneself, and that it will never get rid of the awful pain of loss. Please read this book if you have suffered the death of a loved one. It does not ask you to forget them or devalue them, but will instead help you overcome the pain that we all suffer when this tragic fact of life enters into our existence.

I am sorry you lost your wife and I appreciate your wonderful review. I recently lost three grandparents within one year and have had a really hard time dealing with the loss. I will definitely check this book out. Thanks!
