Barbara Sher is one of my favorite self-help authors and this book was my introduction to her work. It has been around for a while but the information is pretty timeless. Barbara's down-to-earth writing style is perfect for relaying her ideas to the average person stuck in a rut. Barbara herself is not a glamour girl making the rounds of the self-help circuit, dazzling the crowds with glitz and shallow dreams. No, she has good credentials, a good career foundation and many years of experience coaching people in making productive changes. Just reading the book may not change your life, but if you are ready for a new direction and you really work the exercises laid out here, it can get the wheels spinning in your head. And that's what it's all about. Only you can put yourself on a different path, and if you need help doing that, Barbara will make suggestions, based on your own interests, and soon you'll be looking at options for the future you didn't realize were there. Barbara also gives you motivation, by means of real-life examples, to push yourself into exploring those options. If you're ready for a change, this book will help get you started.
Actually, Amanda, yes it did. When I say that Barbara Sher is one of my favorite authors and that this book helped me a lot, I am quite serious. After borrowing the book from the library, I purchased it for myself so that I could have it for a continual resource. I also checked out other books from the library by Barbara Sher. She is a constant source of productive ideas. Not completely original, maybe, but phrased in a way to inspire you and get you thinking. And if you want to get into the field of motivation or a home business, read her other books for lots of suggestions. I work full time, yet I maintain a home art studio and a second career that feels more like my real life than my regular job. I give the thanks for that to people like Barbara Sher and Martha Beck, who inspire me and keep me going on that "different path" that you speak of. Most mortals need a hero or heroine to look up to so as to keep going. One of mine is Barbara Sher.
This was an excellent review as I am just at this point in my life. I could use a little push in the right direction. I had not been aware of Barbara Sher but will check her out thanks to starrgirl's recommendation.
