As a committed environmentalist, I love it when the barriers to entering a more sustainable lifestyle are lowered. "50 Simple Steps to Save the Earth from Global Warming" is one of those barrier-lowering books that will help anyone with a notion that 'conservation is a pretty good idea' the lightest push in the direction of environmentally friendly behaviors.
For instance: Step 2 in the book is "Check your Tire Pressure." The book goes on to remind us that if we are driving with properly inflated tires, we are joining in with a significant minority as "...the American Automobile Association [says] 80 percent of cars on the road have one or more tires under-inflated."
Such simple things as reducing the thermostat by a couple of degrees in winter and increasing it by a couple of degrees in summer, changing lightbulbs to more efficient compact fluorescents, and taking public transportation once or twice a week instead of driving everywhere are ways that the book recommends for beginning to change the world by changing ourselves.
I highly recommend this book to read or gift. It is time to pay attention to the world we are leaving to our children and grandchildren.
I'll get off my soap box now. thanks.
I have this book and must agree with you. The tips are so simple that going green and committing to improving the environment doesn't seem like such a daunting task after all. Great review, thanks!
