I'm not really sure the best way to describe LifeDev. To be honest, I've only been a visitor for the past month or so, and they have a tremendous backlog of fantastic posts to get through. When emailing a link to the site to a friend, I found myself commenting to her that it was like HypeMachine if HypeMachine was a blog itself, and collated entries about creativity in general instead of music specifically. Because that's what LifeDev is- a treasure trove of blog posts devoted to creativity- the creators, the creative process, the creations. It's a great place to visit if you find you're in a bit of a slump or stuck for ideas. The writing is open and friendly, and often provides fantastic tips for living your life in a way where you can maximize your creative potential. Perhaps some of the best posts are the simple '5' entries. On any given topic, the writer comes up with a list of 5 examples of ways said topic has worked, or 5 suggestions on how to achieve the topic. For instance, a post that is about making money from your creativity without specifically putting a price on it might include ways to profit from advertisements. A post expounding the joys of working on location might give you five everyday places where you never would have considered working before. The whole project is a tribute to the power of slightly off-kilter, out of the box thinking, all delivered with friendliness and a simple, readable layout.
Definitely check this one out when you need a boost.
This website is a great reference for anyone looking to live creatively. It's got a great many useful tools, as well as real life advice. Whether you're looking to live your life more creatively, or jump start a block at 5am, this is the place for you!
LifeDev is a blog dedicated to creativity. There are a lot of topics covered, from finding inspiration, to interviews, to reviews of creativity related websites.
What stops this blog from being top notch are the length of the posts, which tend to be on the shorter side. I really enjoy the post about creative methods like the "Soaking" method, where, instead of jumping right into a project, you let it "soak". Of course, this could easily backfire, but it sounds great for my needs.
There's plenty of the expected material, like how to get past creative blocks and creativity jump starts. Again, these are short and don't cover a whole lot, and if you're interested in a subject you're probably better of going somewhere else for a full rundown.
One thing I would like to see more of is technology related posts, given our digital age, especially where software is concerned.
LifeDev has become one of my favorite sites to visit for excellent self improvement articles on creativity and productivity. Whether it’s inspiration to keep the momentum going at 2 in the morning or tools and tips for better productivity at a start of a project, I know I can rely on LifeDev for that creative catalyst. It certainly is an exceptional reference for creative empowerment. The articles are not only well written, they are personal, as opposed to the big generic content that comes with the bigger sites.
