I have a huge problem with keeping things longer than I should - I have always been this way. Not anymore after reading this book. My mother and I actually went through the book together, as we had equally horrendous closets, dressers and other storage spaces that were, quite simply, out of control. I'm 24, but I was hanging onto high school clothes that haven't fit me in years (when would I honestly wear that prom dress again?) and my mother especially had some clothes of hers yet from around the time I was born!
The book is super helpful in that it doesn't just instruct to get rid of what you don't wear, but rather tips on how to arrange your wardrobe to all flow and work together and how to decide what to not keep and donate or throw out. I tend to keep clothes for sentimental reasons which is silly, and this book totally helped me to get over those flaws in myself. I cleaned out my closet to such an extent that I realized how LITTLE of my things I was actually wearing! I made quite a bit of money bringing my old things to a consignment store or selling them on eBay and with that I was able to buy things to build up clothes that I AM actually wearing now for a new wardrobe. Awesome!
i also have a big problem with keeping things longer than i should. my closets are full of stuff i havent worn in a long time. i think i need to read this book to learn how to let go of the emotional aspect of the things i am keeping! you are right...am i really ever going to wear that prom dress again??? thanks for the review.
