My wife bought this for the both of us to read when my daughter was a little younger. She wasn't over weight but I knew it was never too early to eat good food. I think the problems lie (and the book says this) when children eat so much sugar in their diet, that nothing tastes good to them any more except ultra sugary foods. So my aim with my daughter was to just work extra hard to erase that from her palette and start fresh. Using naturally sugary fruits and veggies, my wife and I made a great health snack platter, granola, and many things that are as filling as they are healthy. My daughter to this day has not health problems and I blame this book for that. Bravo :)
Does your daughter play any sports? Growing up, I recall my father (an MD) banning soda from our home because my little brother became a sugar addict. My father cited other health concerns regarding the over-consumption of sugar. It helped that my brother played soccer and could sweat out his recovery on the field.
