Ultimate Cheapskate's Road Map to True Riches: A Practical (and Fun) Guide to Enjoying Life More by Spending Less by Jeff Yeager

It used to be that “stuff” made you cool. That is so twentieth century. Jeff Yeager, the man dubbed The Ultimate Cheapskate by Matt Lauer on Today, offers a completely fresh take on personal finance, teaching us how to enjoy life more by spending less. He will show you how to buy less stuff, retire young, and live financially free, while you make a positive difference in people’s lives and save the planet along the way. The Ultimate Cheapskate’s Road Map to True Riches lays out the practices and principles that have made cheap the new cool.

Live within your means at thirty and stay there. The Ultimate Cheapskate was living well on what he earned at thirty, so when he made more money, he saved every penny. Now he is “selfishly” employed, doing work he loves and helping others.

Do for yourself what you could have others do for you. Cheapskates are die-hard do-it-yourselfers. It’s all about having the right tools, and The Ultimate Cheapskate will get you started.

Pinch the dollars and the pennies will pinch themselves. It’s not the $3 cup of coffee; it’s the big-ticket decisions that determine whether you’ll be financially free. So buy a house, not a castle.

Ultimate Cheapskate's Road Map to True Riches is among one of my favorite books. It gives helpful and practical ways to save money but it is also very humorous. Many of us have known someone who has been frugal and laugh at them but once you read this book and start seeing how fun it is being frugal, you will become a Cheapskate yourself. Because reading books about finances is stressful, this one makes a good read and discussion with your entire family and soon you'll be on your way to saving money for some other much needed things that require your hard earned money!

Since having kids I have cut down on unnecessary spending quite a bit. Not only was it quick to get through, but it was funny in some of his suggestions. I found myself chuckling through many of the pages. It has some neat ideas that can be combined with other tips on simple living. Now some of the information in his book I had already implemented, like I have cut out nearly all processed foods. I don’t really shop at dollar stores, but I do implement sales and clearance with coupons for great savings. Our diet consists of mostly vegetables and pastas so that wasn’t anything new in not buying prepared foods which are sodium packed, unhealthy and costly. I also don’t have to worry about commercials because I had already eliminated cable from my budget nearly a year ago. I realized, I didn’t like the affect it was having on the kids, they are under the age of 8. I realized we burn more energy playing then sitting in front of the TV, it also wastes lots of energy. For those that have found other books boring and fail to capture your interested, this should be completely different. There are lots of useful easy to do things that you can do immediately, without too much difficulty.

I used to be a true consumist, used to buy whatever gadget came out, also at the end of the month I had to squeeze my wallet to see those extra dollars to pay debts, I'm not going to say this book has totally made me a new person, but certainly it has helped me modify certain habits that I had, after reading this book i came to realize that not everything that shines is gold, really helpful and I recommend it to everyone out there that has the same consuming habits that I had.

All right, all right, enough with the serious ‘financial’ books. After you’ve paid off your debt, created your emergency fund, fully funded your 401(k), and invested in a diverse range of stocks and bonds, shouldn’t you get a chance to enjoy yourself without breaking the bank? How do you live in your new financially stable world? Well, fortunately for all of us, The Ultimate Cheapskate’s Guide shows you how. This isn’t an investment book per se. Rather, it’s what you do after you’ve already made all of the right choices for the long – term (limited debt, etc.) It shows you how living frugally is not only beneficial, but often more enjoyable – the author points out that not only do we buy what we don’t need, we also often buy what we don’t want. Sometimes he’s a little over the top – soft-boiling eggs in the dishwasher is amusing, sure, but most people can probably afford to just use a stove-top— but that little bit of ‘crazy’ is what makes this book a really fun read. And definitely one that you’ll remember next time you go to charge something unnecessary to a debt free card.

I'm an old hand at being frugal so I borrowed this book from the library because I wasn't sure if I'd learn much from it. I loved it! I found the authors writing style witty and fun. The advice was sound and put forth in an easy to read. I tended to read something and think "ah ha! I could do that!"
Every tip isn't for everyone but I'm sure you'll find plenty of advice that works in your life. It's easy to cut back on expenses and still live a full. fun life. I sure sounds like the author does!~

I am a cheapskate, through and through. We live on a single income so I can stay home with our kids while my husband works. I find every way I can to cut costs, and this book was very insightful and informative, and gives a good game plan to help people budget and prioritize their expenses. I highly recommend this book to anybody who is living even the teensiest bit beyond their means. It puts spending in perspective

I am a firm believer in honesty will set you free when it comes to your money. People are so afraid of other people making more money than you that they lie, go out and buy things on credit they can't ever afford, and when we all get honest with what we make, and think about why we buy things to impress the people we do, we are ALL happier! This book is REALLY refreshing if you've been living like that. I am so happy to say I got 5 of my closest friends and we made a pact to see who could be the cheapest. We found out what it costs to live a single day (THAT was surprising) and then we cut our budgets by 20%. Its so refreshing to be able to do that and know your savings account is growing rather than your ego. Great book :)
