This book is VERY comprehensive. I always thought of myself as a good recycle person, I've got the green bin and the blue bin, always take my cans back to the store, throw old cellphones in the recycle bins. This book goes way into depth on even more things you can recycle! One that you can take out certain items and write on a notepad, then next time you want to recycle, you know what to take out and where to take it!

I have always thought of myself as a progressive recycler, especially being the first one in my family to care about where our excess was going. I would recycle anything that could go to a recycling center and I would feel good about it. That is until I found Don't Throw It Out: Recycle, Renew, and Reuse to Make Things Last and realized my recycling ambitions where confined to a box. Their are many things you can do to recycle your aged goods while saving time, the environment, and the heartache of your wallet on expensive new replacements. in no way am I putting down my past efforts of recycling; instead I'm celebrating that Don't Throw It Out… has opened my eyes to what’s outside the recycling centers and therefore widened my chances to help the environment, the next generation, and myself. This book is good for anyone who has wanted to make the most of what they have, save something favored, or just help the world around them. I heartily recommend this book for anyone willing to try it.

When I read this book all I could say was I never thought about that! I had come up with a few ideas on how to recycle on my own and combined them with things I had learned, but after reading this book I was left knowing just how much I never knew. The ideas she has in recycling can really blow you away. Now I haven’t tried everything and there are a few. My daughter loved the book the most and she keeps asking me to borrow it from the library again and again. For those who are not into recycle you can still gain lots of practical advice on how to keep your furniture and appliances in great shape so they last longer. The index is so easy to use and the domestic challenge at the end of each chapter, really gets you to thinking. The first thing my kids wanted to try was the toothbrush critters. Needless to say they are always asking to make more. Great book, I highly recommend everyone picking up a copy.

Okay, in all truthfulness, I always thought I was doing well to reuse 'scrap' paper and to remember to recycle the bottles and cans. But I'd barely hit the tip of the iceberg! In 'Don't Throw It Out', the authors address the growing trend of buying something only to throw it out or replace it when it becomes nonfunctional- or even when it just becomes cosmetically damaged. They attempt to change how we think about these everyday items- from toothbrushes to home appliances- and show how they can be repaired, recycled, or repurposed. Beyond that, they offer tips on buying quality items that will last a long time in the first place.

A great book that shows best how to reduce what you buy, use what you've already bought, and recycle what you can no longer use. Highly recommended.

I checked this book out at my local library and cannot say enough good things about it! It is packed full of clever ideas on how to recycle and reuse everything- and I mean everything. Toothbrushes, furniture, boxes, food, etc.- practically everything in your house is covered- inside and out. It also features tips on keeping appliances working, making furniture last, and keeping your possessions in tip top shape. I think that this is a must read for everyone who is looking to make their own small, positive contribution to the environment. My children loved it too and we made some fun critters out of old toothbrushes. It seems I can't throw anything away now without first asking- can I make something out of this?! What would Lori do with this? I promise, after reading this book, you will never look at your trash in the same light again!
