I grew up in Dave Ramsey's home town, and his "financial plaza" was right across from my job for several years, so you could say I'm pretty familiar with his ideas. This book is a great thing to get a young person started in the right direction, even though it seems largely aimed at older people. Through TMMO, I am paying off my one small credit card and saving for my honeymoon, a downpayment, and for retirement - and I'm 25. This book explains step-by-step exactly what to do, but it leaves the hardest part up to the reader: they have to DO it. Whether it means taking a part-time job (not as bad as it sounds, I promise! I'm doing it now!) or giving up some little luxuries for longterm goals.
One caveat: Dave does not believe in credit cards, at all. In this economy, you need good credit to get a good rate on a mortgage (really the only kind of debt he deems okay) so if you go this route, really keep on top of your credit and build it every chance you get!
Its nice you're doing well at 25 but also intriguing how you're using credit cards which are not part of the plan. Makes one wonder if it is the plan working for you or your own good self?!
Yes-- I found your use of your personal situation in your review made it more authentic for me. Pointing out a few of the general concepts promoted in the book was also helpful. Thank You.
