What are the steps people have had success with in regards to starting a career with a big 4 firm or consulting firm? ie - Deloitte, PWC, E&Y, Accenture, KPMG
Hi, I'm a hypnocoach I use Hypnosis creative visualization with my clients. The steps I use start with coming Up With Winning Ideas, what sets you apart from others.
Your Passion
Truly understanding the motivation and vision that drives success and highlights the vital role of the imagination. What lights you up and makes you want to get out of bed in the morning
Build Self Belief
how confidence and success create a virtuous circle which the astute business person will nurture and strengthen. At the same time, we aim to make clear how goals, objectives and values interconnect and how important it is to understand how they fit together
Laser Focus
cutting out distractions and trivialities so that more time and energy can be devoted to doing what is really important.
Develop an Unbeatable Work Ethic
Develop the mental and emotional qualities - the work ethic - that will bring them through.
This is a very quick sketch of the process I take my clients through when they are starting a new job or business venture.
Hope that helps
It sounds like you have a big vision for your future. That can be a huge piece of what leads to "success."
Learning what's worked for others can certainly inform your process. And I encourage you to take ownership of your career path. Learn from others and don't limit yourself to what they have done.
You say "starting a career." What is your current skill set? Your past experience? What kind of career are you looking for? How do these align with the needs of those firms? Are there skills you need to add? What "story" can you tell about yourself (in the form of resume, letter, interviews etc.) that will be attractive to these firms?
An important question to answer is "what are you bringing to the party?" The surest way to success is to be absolutely clear about what you have to offer and what its value is to your target audience.
I also want to ask you why the Big 4? What are you telling yourself about this? Why do you believe that the big 4 is the best place for you? And how might this belief be limiting your opportunities?
I hope these questions will help you start to find your way.
all the best,
sharon
Are you just getting out of college? If so, it depends on which college you're graduating from. The big firms tend to recruit heavily at the top colleges. But they do go through a lot of new recruits.
Frankly, the best way to get in the door is to know someone who's already there. Be prepared to not have a life for 3 years: all of the firms you mentioned typically require 100% travel.
I think Sharon made a good point. Why the big four?
If you have a solid answer for why you want to work at Deloitte etc, perhaps you already have a clear vision of what you want to achieve.
However, if you don't have a solid answer to that question, then you may be casting around in the dark with too vague an idea of what you want to do.
