I'm currently reading Eckhart Tolle's book - "The New Earth" and watching the video classes that Oprah has done with him. It's wonderful and a terrific way to be able to learn the material more fully than just reading the book alone.
One thing I've been noticing is where I'm resistant to what is and spending my energy - wasting my energy is more like it - on thinking thoughts in the future or past where I drag pain into my now. It's really not very productive. I know this from working with clients who want to lose weight. The frustrations of trying to get out of the current moment and the current moments feelings can drive someone to eat, overeat, binge or other behaviors they would rather not be doing. When you actually truly phyically hungry and eat an appropriate amount of food for the size you wish to be and then move on to other more interesting things, you will find that you don't have to monitor things, count calories or do anything special to be your ideal weight. You will begin to naturally crave things that support you as well. Provided you even know what those things are. Whole foods in their whole state is a good start. I don't think any other living being gets on a scale and makes up a judgement about themselves depending on a number. Toss out the scale and start living lighter right now!

Here, here! I haven't owned a scale in years!
I love Eckhardt Tolle, too. His books are really great.
