We all have them – the guilty pleasures. Whether it is that old Duran Duran cassette tape or that ridiculous made-for-TV movie, we sneak away when we think no one is watching to indulge ourselves.

Remember being a kid and trying to read that comic or watch that show you enjoyed? Do you also remember when your friends found out about said action? They made fun of you and made you feel like a bonehead for liking it. From then on – you waited until you knew no one was around before you did it again and you never mentioned it to anyone. Presto, the guilty pleasure is born.

As we grow older, things change – we feel a little more secure and want to express ourselves as individuals. Of course, we don’t necessarily brag about watching a daytime drama or listening to the Bee Gees, but we may not make a big deal out of being caught doing it.

Personally, I am at the point where I just don’t give a rat’s tail if someone thinks something I watch/read/listen to is dorky. I’ve owned up to being a dork many times and it is quite freeing! My suggestion – embrace your guilty pleasures. There is a reason the word pleasure is in there. I’ve stuck by my “Immaculate Collection” by Madonna CD for years and have found others that think its cool. In fact, I still rock Duran Duran and A Flock of Seagulls every now and then. If you think I’m silly for liking those bands that would be your problem, not mine.

So, go ahead, admit and enjoy your guilty pleasures! Have fun with them and be yourself. Forget what others may say – they are probably too insecure to embrace their own so pity them.

What’s your guilty pleasure? My guiltiest of all is watching "Charmed" reruns on TNT.
