How to Get Excited About Life Again

Are you in a rut?  Has your life gotten boring?  Here are some tips to get excited about life again. 

Track your mood
Sometimes we just get moody.  We might have a day or a week where we just don’t feel like ourselves.  We’re not up to the usual energy level, or everything seems humdrum or hopeless.  Try tracking your mood on the calendar for a month or two to see if you can identify any patterns.  Use a simple code like bad, even, good or 1, 2, or 3 to record your mood of the day.  It may help the next time you’re down to know how long you can expect it to last!
 
Wear a No Complaints Bracelet
Lack of zest for life may be related to a general negative state of mind.  You’ve seen people wearing those rubber bracelets for everything from cancer awareness to support for their favorite sports teams.  Some are using bracelets as reminders to stay positive.  The idea is to commit to complaint-free living for 30 days.  Every time you break your vow, you have to switch the bracelet to the other wrist.  And you’ve heard it a million times if you’ve heard it once – do something for 30 days and it becomes a habit you no longer have to think about.

Give Big
You don’t have to have Oprah’s bank balance to throw yourself whole-heartedly into a worthy cause.  Pick something substantial and medium-to-long term like a fundraiser or a year-long commitment to a non-profit board.  You’ll meet new people, leverage your strengths, and build new skills.  Plus, you’ll feel good about doing something to make your tiny corner of the world a better place.  That’s something to get excited about!
