With grocery prices rising daily it seems, many of us are looking for ways to cut back our spending. The easiest way I know is to build up your repertoire of recipes. In particular, learn how to cook cheaper cuts of meat. We’ve all become accustomed to skinless, boneless, trimmed cuts and we pay a premium for them.
A great resource I’ve discovered for learning to cook different meats is Everyday Food magazine. It’s published by the Martha Stewart empire so the recipes are on the traditional side. The big difference between Everyday Food and Living is that although the recipes still call for high quality ingredients, they are simplified, more down to earth, and quicker. It’s gourmet for the rest of us.
I like the section with the 30-minute meals (most of them take me an hour, but maybe I’m slow!) This week I made lemon garlic chicken out of an actual whole cut up chicken. I fed my family of four and had leftovers for several lunches for me for about $8 total.
