How to Find a Hobby and Relax

Workaholic? Yeah, I’ve definitely been there! In fact, if I'm not careful those tendencies sneak up and try to bite me quite frequently. While it feels good to accomplish/achieve and there are arguably worse prefixes for the –aholic label, it really is important find a hobby and relax! Too much stress will only age you, make you irritable, or simply cause you to be no fun to be around whatsoever! Some of the best hobbies that help one relax are in the great outdoors in my opinion - participating in sports! Here are a few of my favorites to deal with feeling overwhelmed:

Golf: As I have mentioned before, going out to the driving range and pretending the little ball is that person/place/thing that is bothering you is rather therapeutic. Walking the course, especially a seaside or beautifully landscaped one, surrounded by nature has a calming effect for sure.

Surfing: I truly cannot think of a more relaxing sport. That feeling you get when you catch that perfect wave is remarkable and nearly impossible to duplicate. Add in the fact that you are in the water, experiencing all it has to offer and bliss awaits…

Snowboarding: You rush down the mountain and get the sensation of what it would be like to fly. Again, look around at your beautiful surroundings of the snow and mountains and its hard to be stressed out.

A simple walk: If you don’t have the sporting equipment or ability to do the others, a simple walk in scenic surroundings will do the trick! Pick a trail near the ocean, lake, mountain, or park near you. Pay close attention to your surroundings and appreciate the flora and fauna. Not a visual person? Put on the headphones with some tunes that put you at ease.

Whatever you decide, a little physical activity goes a long way. Instead of whining about how you don’t have time to relax or exercise, realize that not taking 20-30 minutes to yourself can be quite costly. Stress busters are just as important as food and sleep! You really don’t have time for a nervous breakdown/serious illness do you?
