THE FITNESS PSYCHE : Capitalizing on the Nine Basic Human Needs – a Twelve-Month Exploration
2008 is the best year to own, understand and improve our FITNESS PSYCHE by exploring the nine basic human needs. We each prioritize three out of the nine human needs. Each need directly affects our FITNESS PSYCHE in a positive or negative way. I know that as a team we will take goal-setting steps and soon master the positive qualities in our three needs.
2008 is the best year ever to publicly address my FITNESS PSYCHE and actively achieve greatness in life by developing positive habits. Let us define the nine human needs, own up to our personal three needs and challenge how they resonate with us as self-improving individuals. I am confident that you will activate change and improve your FITNESS PSYCHE by exercising positive aspects of your needs.
The nine human needs (Security, Adventure, Freedom, Exchange, Power, Expansion, Acceptance, Community, Expression) constitute differently in different people and will be generally defined on this platform one at a time one month at a time.
Please join me for a monthly discourse on each human need and how it relates to your FITNESS PSYCHE. I welcome thoughtful and intelligent contributions as it relates to you, your goals and your achievements. By October (10/2008), we will have a pretty well-rounded grasp on what our three personal human needs are and will most likely have already taken the steps to achieve our FITNESS PSYCHE goals. My personal human needs are: Adventure, Freedom and Expansion. I will delve into each of my human needs, my challenges and my achievements as my turn and month arrives!
Lets make some 2008 magic one step at a time and achieve THE BEST YEAR EVER!
January 2008 Focus: Security and Our FITNESS PSYCHE
Security refers to the need to feel safe. We feel safe when we can predict or control the outcome of things. Safety translates to such things as having enough money in the bank, a secure job, a healthy and balanced FITNESS PSYCHE, loving/romantic human relationships, life/family/medical insurance, a religious/spiritual foundation, a strong community and individual/familial self-defense.
Security as a need has both positive and negative perspectives and we behave according to those aspects. The positive perspective allows one to feel a sense that everything is “okay” and that improvement in any area is “achievable”. The negative perspective dictates fear of not having enough and the subsequent behavior is an insecurity to make changes, take risks or even worse - anger and hostility!
If we do not understand our needs and experience fulfillment of these needs, we tend to explore negative behavioral actions. We become resent-filled.
Our FITNESS PSYCHE is affected by the need for Security in both positive and negative ways. Some examples of the positive are: a strong sense body image/self-awareness (how your body feels, looks and performs). You may also apply concepts of self-improvement whether it means losing weight, running a marathon or even trying a new type of group fitness class at your gym. The negative, is simply the opposite – you tend to be insecure in the body image/self-awareness department and you most likely will not do a thing about it. You may even resent the body you were born into and covet your neighbors! Now that’s an awful feeling!
Have you experienced the NEED for Security? Do you still experience the NEED for Security? How does this manifest in your FITNESS PSYCHE?

2008 is the best year ever to discuss THE FITNESS PSYCHE!!! My goal is to understand the Nine Basic Human Needs through a Twelve-Month Exploration. I aim to identify with others in a communal effort to self-improve and actualize my commitments to my health and wellness. I vow to share my knowledge, passion and experience in the world of health, balance and lifestyle!
I know that by setting the stage as a role model, I will help another set the stage as well.

Please help me to understand....so this month's focus is security? And how that applies to my personal human needs of: adventure, power, and expression...?

All I have to say about "security" is that I think it's an illusion, it doesn't exist. I had that epihany as I stood on Broadway and 14th st. watching the trade towers fall, ever since then, the notion of security has never been real for me.

How this translates/relates to my fitness psyche is something I'm hoping you will explain:)
