In this new and updated edition of one of the biggest-selling financial-planning books ever, David Chilton simplifies the complex puzzles of personal finance and helps you achieve financial independence. With the help of his fictional barber, Roy, and a large dose of humor, Chilton shows you how to take control of your financial future--slowly, steadily, and with sure success. Chilton's plan (detailed in an entertaining story) is no get-rich-quick scheme, but it does make financial independence possible on nothing more than an average salary.
This third edition has been updated with assistance from the Arthur Andersen Corporation, and covers the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 and other recent developments.
Even if you consider yourself a financial "basket case," Chilton explains how you can easily put an effective financial plan into action.
I'm close to my hair stylist, and she's been talking about changing her line of work for a couple years. When I saw this book I had to get it for her...(but I read it before I did!) Its pretty common sense but it really was a lot of hope for a person who felt they were in a dead end job. If you're in the same boat, don't be! Every job is scalable, every job has opportunities, and this book even addresses when to know when to stay and when to go. Sometimes it is worth it to cut your losses and not worry about your 25 year run as a hairstylist, but go and pursue what your heart desires. I don't have my stylist any more but she's doing what she loves to do! With a degree in accounting, she became my CPA.
I first heard of this book when a co-worker introduced it to my husband. I am very glad he did! We're a young couple just starting out, and a lot of the information in this book was completely new to me. Despite this, I found the book interesting and very easy to follow.
With so many people in massive debt and all the horror stories you hear about foreclosed homes, it is clear that most people need help in learning how to responsibly manage their money. If you have no trouble balancing your budget every month, this book is still a great refresher course in finance and offers a lot of information to help you maximize your long term savings.
