Unfortunately, most of us have little sense of our talents and strengths, much less the ability to build our lives around them. Instead, guided by our parents, by our teachers, by our managers, and by psychology's fascination with pathology, we become experts in our weaknesses and spend our lives trying to repair these flaws, while our strengths lie dormant and neglected.
Marcus Buckingham, coauthor of the national bestseller First, Break All the Rules, and Donald O. Clifton, Chair of the Gallup International Research & Education Center, have created a revolutionary program to help readers identify their talents, build them into strengths, and enjoy consistent, near-perfect performance. At the heart of the book is the Internet-based StrengthsFinder® Profile, the product of a 25-year, multimillion-dollar effort to identify the most prevalent human strengths. The program introduces 34 dominant "themes" with thousands of possible combinations, and reveals how they can best be translated into personal and career success. In developing this program, Gallup has conducted psychological profiles with more than two million individuals to help readers learn how to focus and perfect these themes.
Now Discover Your Strengths is an excellent book for someone trying to figure out their career path in life. This book was given to me as a gift. I found it very helpful. I was able to take a Strengthfinder test where I was given 5 areas in which my talents lie. I have found this assessment to be quite accurate.
The author recommends that you focus on your strengths, rather than your weaknesses to succeed. I think this is great advice. Most people try to improve upon areas that they are weak in. By focusing on improving your strong points, you can maximize your strenghts, thereby allowing yourself to be the best possible person.
I recommend this book to anyone who is unsure what career path they should take. I also recommend it for anyone wanting to discover what they are really good at. I is a fantastic book, that is really well-written. I am so happy that I received this book.
I found this to be onf of the best sources of information possible! At a time when you feel that you have disected, exposed, confirmed and conquered each issue within yourself, this novel gives you more. This novel gives you the tools to realize that there are many aspects of yourself that you may not address. You are able to determine your strengths and how they can work best for you in achieving any of life's goals. This novel took me from exploring myself to understanding myself. Truely a wondeful novel. Please, if you are trying to change your life, read this novel.
An absolute requirement in your literary collection. This novel offers everything and more than you would expect to find. You will find a great page turner and you will find yourself.
I have always thought people have two things, talents and skills. Talents are what you're born with, things you're naturally good at, and then skills are what you develop to bring your talents to light. THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THIS BOOK IS ABOUT! It takes a look at how to discover your talents and how to make the most out of them with your skills. (and what skills to develop!) It all starts with what you are already good at, and everyone has something-- which is why this book is for everyone. This book is all about getting away from mediocracy and living up to potential. Exactly what people need to hear and embrace in this day and age.
All my life when I have achieved something of meaning the first thing I was told was that I needed to improve certain gaps that where left open, than I was told good job. This has left me completely flaw obsessed. Now, Discover your strengths is teaching me that weaknesses are okay and that its my strengths I need to focus on and build, and only through my strengths will I achieve success, and satisfaction from that success. Through this book, I have been able to see where my best attributes lie and how to raise them up to connect with my job and to know what I should look for in my next job. I have found that through the philosophy of this book you can be more successful focusing on your strengths than building your weakness. The concepts of positively taking in your attributes, instead of negatively putting down the things you lack while trying to build them up, completely refreshes your mind and body.
