I recommend reading this book after you read Codependent No More, by the same author. It is full of daily inspirational advice, and offers new ways of looking at things which may trouble you. Each day, the author reflects on money, relationship issues, and dealing with other things which often make life stressful. Much of the text is spiritual and faith-based.

I bought this book on eBay not long ago after reading an excellent book of similar topic. Maybe I missed something, but I didn't find anything that was particularly new or refreshing. It seemed very overdone and juvenille to be honest. Parts were interesting, but rarely intriguing. It didn't cause me to think too much about the instructions given to help "let go." Shockingly, I would still give it to a friend who had similar issues in releases any held in emotions about someone lost. I lost someone I was very close to a few years back and this book may have been better then, right after the death occurred. It's not a bad book, I don't regret reading it, but very little stuck with me after I finished - I believe that's key.

After I lost my grandparents, with whom I was very close to, I had some real issues to work though. This book by Melody Beattie is just another of her masterpieces. If you are grieving over the loss of a dog, a parent, a friend, or really even a friendship that or job that you're trying to "let go" of, you'll find solace in this book. The techniques (if you're open and willing to do them and look at yourself honestly) will help you through just about any transition in life. This for me was the turning point in getting better or getting bitter. If you need this book I may even buy it for you! Buying this for someone at a funeral could really help the person see themselves differently and heal faster. Its. That. Good.

One of the most important things they teach you when you’re in recovery (for anything, pretty much: drugs, alcohol, eating disorders, etc) is that in order to be successful you MUST realize that your addiction has rendered you powerless. That in order to go on with your life, you have to deal with your emotions in a healthy way, and that is the basic principle of this book. It’s a “daily devotion” type of book, but I found myself taking it around with me in my purse and reading it when I felt moments of weakness or anger. It’s a wonderful source of inspiration for anyone going through long-term recovery from any kind of addiction or illness. Also it’s a great thing for family members and friends of a loved one who are having a hard time understanding the healing process.

My only complaint with this book is that it starts off with the New Year; I read it all year long and don’t really follow day-by-day, but that may not bother anyone else.

This is a really nice book. I received it in my early twenties from an older lady who was like a mentor to me. It has daily paragraphs or quotes from people with a particular problem dealing with co-dependency or some type of major change in their life. A response is written below the paragraph with mantras or a positive statement on how to deal with it. It can come from a totally different perspective than you would think. It is kind of an eye-opener depending on where you are or where you’ve been. You can flip through the book and read what you need for that day. For anyone who is going through major changes in their life, it could be very helpful. I would recommend it to anyone going through any type of major change like divorce, moving out for the first time, leaving home for the first time, etc.
