The Daring Book for Girls is the manual for everything that girls need to know -- and that doesn't mean sewing buttonholes! Whether it's female heroes in history, secret note-passing skills, science projects, friendship bracelets, double dutch, cats cradle, the perfect cartwheel or the eternal mystery of what boys are thinking, this book has it all. But it's not just a guide to giggling at sleepovers -- although that's included, of course! Whether readers consider themselves tomboys, girly-girls, or a little bit of both, this book is every girl's invitation to adventure.
I’ll admit it: I love this book as much as my daughter does! I bought it for her for the holidays last year; almost one year later we still flip through the well worn pages and read interesting, exciting things out loud for each other. Taking a wonderful step back from today’s fast and furious world of text messaging and television and video games, this book is full of hands-on activities, crafts, games and generally fun things-to-do in that harken back to more innocent and patient days. In other words, it’s full of old-fashioned kind of fun! Remember hopscotch, jump rope (and all the wonderful songs to sing while playing), marbles, making dried flowers and crafting your own jewelry? It’s in here, along with so much more. Also includes tons of easy to digest and fascinating to read introductions to famous women in history. Highly recommended for young girls of every age. You’ll be delighted as you watch them read it and enjoy!
I bought this book last Christmas for my nine year old daughter and we think it is great. It's like a little reference book for girl stuff- an encyclopedia of all the information that little girls (and big girls) should know! It's a beautifully designed book too, made with high quality paper and beautiful fonts that give it a sort of old-fashioned, mysterious feeling.
The thing I like most about this book is how it highlights why it's so much fun to be a girl! I know that children today are going to play video games, watch TV, and play on the computer. This book isn't going to stop that from happening. But, it does encourage girls to go outside and play- to catch fireflies and have secret hideouts with your friends.
I think this book should be a part of every girl's library- no matter their age!
Since my husband and I just had a baby girl, I thought this book would be the perfect little gift for him. And, in fact, it was!
I originally bought the book because we already have "The Dangerous Book for Dogs." Since we loved that book so much, I just knew that we would love this one as well.
The book is nothing, if not fun. It contains a lot of interesting trivia about and for women. But I think one of the most interesting parts of the book are the brief biographies of women in history. I think it's so important for girls today to know about important women in history, and this book offered a little of that.
But as far as fun goes, this book offers its fair share with information on how to play different games and sports and other fun trivia.
I would definitely recommend this book to other women and girls!
I bought this book for myself after flipping through it at Barnes and Noble. It caught my eye because it looks old-fashioned and it is a nice sturdy hardcover book.
The book has stories, instructions, projects and more. The reason I decided to buy it was because it has information about SPORTS. I admit, I have very little knowledge about sports. Since this book is geared towards young readers, it presents the sports information in terms that I can easily understand. Now I do not have to feel stupid when my husband watches football games.
This book would be great for a teenage girl. It even has instructions on how to change a tire. I wish I would have known how to change a tire myself when I was younger. It also has information about very important skills like instructions for giving CPR.
Some of the projects might require help from mom or dad (like building a scooter), but I think this book would be well received by any young lady you buy it for.
I first saw this book about a year ago, and loved the idea. I bought it for my sister for Christmas, and she later lent it back to me. It is such a good book with instructions just for girls. It teaches fun things, like how to say hello in ten different languages, how to make friendship bracelets, and secrets for getting your important note to your friends in school. It is a great book for any girl, or a grown-up who is a free spirit!
