What to Expect: Eating Well When You're Expecting by Heidi Murkoff

Announcing Eating Well When You're Expecting, providing momsto- be with a realistic approach to navigating healthily and deliciously through the nine months of pregnancy—at home, in the office, over the holidays, in restaurants. Thorough chapters are devoted to nutrition, weight gain, food safety, the postpartum diet, and how to eat when trying to conceive again. And, very exciting, the book comes with 150 contemporary, tasty, and healthy recipes that feed mom and baby well, take little time to prepare, and are gentle on queasy tummies.

A departure from its predecessor, What to Eat When You’re Expecting, which has 976,000 copies in print, Eating Well loses the whole-wheatierthan- thou attitude, and comes with a light, reader-friendly tone while delivering the most up-to-date information. At the heart of the book are hundreds of pressing questions every mother-to-be has: Is it true I shouldn’t eat any food cooked with alcohol? Will the caffeine in coffee cross into my baby’s bloodstream? Help!—I’m entering my second trimester, and I’m losing weight, not gaining. Is all sushi off limits? How do I get enough calcium if I’m lactose intolerant? I keep dreaming about a hot fudge sundae— can I indulge? Guess what: the answer is yes.

I got this book as a gift when I was first pregnant. It explains what you should be eating and why the foods are important. It made a lot of sense.

This book was a gift for me when I was expecting my first child. Much like Murkoff's other books, it is an excellent source for pregnant women. It is the book I went to when I wasn't sure if something was okay to eat or not. It also helped me to plan all of my meals throughout my pregnancy. I will pass this book along to all of my pregnant friends.

This was one of the best books I've ever read. Not only did it teach me the importance of nutrition for myself and my only son, it was fun and very easy to read. Every expectant mother, whether it is your first or thirty-first should have this book! It was one of the best gifts I have ever received and while you are at it, please check out all the other What to Expect books, they are indeed priceless and a wealth of information!

My friend gave me this book as a gift when I got pregnant. I've read a lof of books, but this one was the ony one I read again and again. This was the only book I read during my pregnancy. Being a first time mom, it's really scary. And this book helped relieve some of that tension. By explaining in detail what exactly is happening, and knowing the growth stages of the baby each month, pregnancy actually got more interesting and less scary. And the post-partum advice was so helpful, because usually a mother never knows what to do when the baby's born. This book really helped me get through my pregnancy.

The doctor gave me a copy of this book when I was expecting my first child. This is a must have for every first time to be mom. The book is very informative and covers a huge variety of pregnancy subjects and concerns.
As a diabetic mommy to be I found their advice very useful. It answered many of my questions and reduced the need for phone calls to the Doctors office.
I really liked the month my month section that showed what was happening with the baby and what you would be experiencing.
The book also contains great postpartum advice because your questions do not end once you have given birth. This is a terrific book!

I was actually given this book by my ob-gyn (yes he is awesome) after being diagnosed with gestational diabetes. The advice on nutrition during pregnancy is excellent. I used this as my guide because I was on a restricted diet, and I felt great after following their advice. They also are very thorough about covering pretty much any question you can imagine. Be warned though, some of their advice is extremely difficult to follow. Only eating raw sugar is hard as many products contain white, processed sugar that you would not expect. Basically, it is hard for anyone to eat perfectly, pregnant or not. Yet, this book can help you create a nutritional plan that is as close to perfect as possible. These authors are detail oriented and leave nothing to chance- I consider this book to be a must have for all expectant mothers!

This is a great book. I read it with my first pregnancy, fearing I would gain a ton of weight with the pregnancy. i managed to gain a decent amaount, but it was because I was on bed rest for 5 months and couldn't exercise. this book helped make sure what I gained wasn't a crazy amount!

The authors of this book really give you all of the information that you need to maintain a healthy and happy pregnancy. It helps take the guess work out of eating while pregnant. The book is very well written and very easy to read. It was a joy to read and obtain the knowledge. I feel like with my next pregnancy, I will have the tools to eat well, make smart choices, and maintain a healthy weight. i would recommend this book to friends and coworkers who are expecting a baby. My husband even enjoyed reading it!

I got this book for free, through some promotion, and I would have gladly paid for it. It helps you get through all 9 months of pregnancy, because it gives you practical advice and lets you know what's happening inside of you. I used to love graduating to the next month to see what the baby looks like inside of me. I know nowadays you can look online for a lot of stuff, but there's nothing better than a book that you can access at ANY time. And this book has everything you'd need to know in one place.

This book is a great book for all pregnant women, regardless if this is her first pregnancy or her fifth. This book was very easy to read and filled with information vital to healthy eating for both the expecting mom and the baby.

The book not only answers a lot of questions that the mom-to-be may not even realize she has, but it also answers many questions she may have including the age old question of “how do I not get fat” that most women ask themselves when they find out they are expecting.

What to Expect, is filled with quick and easy recipes that even women who are suffering from stomach upset can make easily and enjoy eating without the queasiness that many foods cause. I also loved the fact that this book also covers eating out, which can be a big issue, as well as proper postpartum eating.

This book is very well written and very detailed. I read it with my second pregnancy....where was this book when I went through my first pregnancy. So many of the questions I had as a new mom the first time and had asked my family and co-workers, I was told many answers that weren't right.

I gained 45 pounds my first pregnancy and 25 with my second pregnancy and it was due to this wonderful book. It took the guess work out of truly knowing how to be healthy for me and my baby.

I have started giving this book as gifts at baby showers and in reading our local newspaper, I give the book to any family in out neighborhood, or community whom I see needs help. While they may not all read the book, I have the satisfaction of knowing that they have a wonderful resource in their hands.

I could not have survived my pregnancies without this book. This was fantastic because it gave a wort-case-scenario and a best-case-scenario as well as what kinds of things to expect throughout your entire pregnancy. It covers things that you are afraid to ask your doctor, and it covers things you forgot to ask your doctor. It has just about every pregnancy-related condition in it, and is a good book for a first pregnancy, or a fifth pregnancy alike!
