It takes more than one minute, from my experience. However, the time it takes to be a good parent is well worth the investment. This book gives some great insight into shaping your kids into the kind of people you hope they will become. There is no substitute for taking the time to be consistent in your discipline. You will also find some tips for understanding your child in a new light and nurturing him to be the best he can be. Bringing out the best in a child is really where you want focus.
I have a six year old son, four year old daughter and a three year old daughter. My youngest daughter is a special needs child. I've always been what they call a "book" parent. I've read so many books on raising children and I love them. When my youngest was born I wanted to make sure that I was the kind of mother that she needed and also make sure that my other two children never suffered from the added activities having a special needs child adds to a family.
I came across One Minute Mother about a month ago. At times I feel like I am struggling and was looking for something that I felt could help me.
Now although I didn't find this book to really relate to my relationship with my two daughters, I did find some useful stuff to use in my relationship with my six year old.
My son just started school and has picked up some of the bad behaviors of his classmates. I have found several exercises in this book that has helped me with my sit down talks with him about some of these new things he has picked up.
Now I wouldn't recommend this book for parents of younger children but I think those of school age would benefit from it.
In today's society seeing children with bad manners, disrespectful to parents and their elders, etc. is almost now common. One Minute Mother is an excellent book for mothers and gives great insight into how to correctly teach children right and wrong. The book also teaches you how to sit down, talk and create mutual rules, goals, etc. between parent and child. I recommend this book to parents who have children ages nine and up. The book is very easy to read and keeps the reader engaged from start to finish. This is one to get and keep on your shelf because I guarantee, you'll have a friend or two who will need to borrow it.
