Dr. Spencer Johnson’s stories of timeless, simple truths have changed the work and lives of millions of readers around the world. Now comes an insightful new tale of inspiration and practical guidance for these turbulent times.
The Present
The Present is the best gift you can receive because it makes you happy and successful!
Whether it means …
• Having peace of mind and feeling more alive; or
• Being more productive and more prosperous; or
• Finding whatever is important to you and to those you work and live with.
I disagree with the other reviewer. Yeah, Dr. Johnson's book isn't brimming with brilliant new ideas, but thats not what its supposed to be, its the overall effect that you're left with that is so intriguing. I happen to love the mini-stories with advice at the end format. I think its noble for people who work in these sorts of work places to read this book because it is so important to get along with co-workers, bosses and employees. At the end of the day, you realize "wow, I spend 1/3 of my life with these people" and this helps you realize, what fights to take on, what to leave behind, and how to know the difference. I had to deal with this just recently when I had to talk to my boss about an employee, and he ended up getting fired. When is it appropriate to do the right thing? I had to review this book to find out.
I think this book of Spencer Johnson to an extent was a disappointment. May be because of the high expectations set by his other book "Who moved my cheese".
Initially it felt it was a light read but the story has been dragged a little too much and not achieving the effect which the author probably tried to make with an elaborate story.
Story is woven around a old man with lots of wisdom watching and grooming a small child with stories around the present (gift). Authors fails to create the suspense he proabably wanted in the story and the one liner gists given are not all that good.
The take away is very simple - "The best present (gift) you can give yourself is the present (current)". Work now no matter what, no matter what the past has been and no matter what the future holds.
