The Road Less Traveled: A New Psychology of Love, Traditional Values and Spiritual Growth by M. Scott Peck

Perhaps no book in this generation has had a more profound impact on our intellectual and spiritual lives than The Road Less Traveled. With sales of more than 7 million copies in the United States and Canada, and translation into more than 23 languages, it has made publishing history, with more than 10 years on The New York Times bestseller list.
Told in a voice that is timeless in its measure of understanding, The Road Less Traveled continues to unable us to explore the nature of loving relationships and leads us toward a new serenity and fullness of life. It help us determine how to distinguish dependency from love; how to become a more sensitive parent; and ultimately how to become one's own true self.
Recognizing that "Life is difficult" and that the journey to spiritual growth is a long one, Dr. Peck never bullies his listeners, but but gently guides them through the hard and often painful process of change toward a higher level of self-understanding.
Combining profound psychological insight and deep spirituality, this is an audiobook that provides inspiration and understanding. As Phyllis Theroux wrote in The Washington Post when the original edition of The Road Less Traveled was first published, "It is not just a book but a spontaneous act of generosity"

This book has been wonderful for my life! I read the first edition about 20 years ago, and this version is even more helpful today. Peck’s insights into our feelings and actions are amazing. The book really made me understand that the things we go through are not ours alone—that many people struggle and many people overcome.

It is amazing to me that the same words I read with disbelief so many years ago ring so true today. Peck’s personal stories made me laugh and cry, touching my heart in many ways. It inspired me to open my heart to change, challenge, responsibility, and discipline.

This book is so easy to read and easy to understand. Peck’s understanding of the way many people work makes you believe that he knows your challenges, he has seen something like it, and he knows something about it that can help you. I found myself wanting to totally “give in” and trust everything he said. I will always keep this book and will reread it often.

Though a little passive this marvel from Scott Peck is an inspiring book which strengthens the value of love, patience, trust, relationship and living life to the fullest.

Peck takes you through all these strong values in life through interesting short stories which most of you would relate to a great extent and also makes it a interesting read.

You may find it a little abstract and it is recommended to be read it leisurely.

This book was recommended to me by a friend who "had it all together." I asked her for her secret and she said that she'd been very successful employing the principles in Peck's book, "The Road Less Traveled." She loaned it to me and wow...I really enjoyed it and learned so much.

Peck's ideas about personal responsibility, self-discipline, and relationships offer ideas to any reader. His writing is easy to read and understand, and filled with anecdotes that are easily applied to the reader's situation.

I’m not a religious person, but I found a lot of value in Peck’s ideas for spiritual growth and personal development. Basically, though, this book is not for wimps. If are looking for a “poor me” serenade, “The Road Less Traveled” is not for you. Peck asks readers to take responsibility for their situations, and offers solutions for change (through sacrifice and hard work).

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to take charge of their own situation and change things for the better.

This book is old and falling apart in my bookshelf. The review is for audio but I had the book and wanted to review the material.

It is such a great book, you can read and re-read it and still get something out of it. It is timeless. It cost $5.95 back in 1982. One of the most interesting parts to me is about the myth of romantic love. He explains why love is not a feeling and even though a lot of the book is about romantic love, a lot of character issues are intertwined. The book covers your mind map meaning your view of the world, recognizing the outdated material and taking the challenge to change it. It covers lies and deception and how important it is to be honest with yourself as well as everyone else. He writes from the point of view that laziness is the original sin. He does believe in evil but in the form of people’s hatred. It covers a lot, gives you a lot to think about. This is a classic. Everyone should read it.

The Road Less Traveled is a classic that explores personal discipline, love, growth and religion. It is inward looking, insightful, sound and practical in many cases. Scott Peck does an excellent job of presenting this material on self-reflection, analysis and addressing personal growth in a positive manner. This is a book about spiritual growth, and specifically the author's view of how this can be achieved, and upon completion of it one cannot help but feel that he has succeeded to a large extent in illuminating the path towards such a noble, but difficult, objective.A unique study of growth through psychotherapy; anyone can benefit. Peck says we already have the knowledge we need, we just draw on it through our conscious; we learn what we already know. He uses patient/doctor discussions to explain his point. Refreshing and informative from the very first page. You will also find it insightful and well reasoned. He finds his chief enemy is invariably laziness; it will take work.Although the book was released three decades ago, it remains useful today. You will be happy and successful in life if you follow the principles of this book.If you haven’t read this then you are missing lot of great insight which has been provided in the book.
