Travel on an exciting, thought-provoking journey of discovery with the bestselling author of The Dancing Wu Li Masters. With a scientist's eye and philosopher's heart, Gary Zukav illustrates our evolution from a species that pursues external power—power based upon the perceptions of the five senses—into a species that pursues authentic power—power based upon the perceptions of values of the spirit.
In his simple, elegant, poetic style, Mr. Zukav explains how the pursuit of external power has produced our survival-of-the-fittest mentality and generated conflict between individuals, races, and nations. He shows how we create our own reality through our intentions and choices. Through a revealing study of reincarnation and karma, he describes how our previous lives affect our everyday acts of creation.
He also shows how infusing the activities of life with reverence, compassion, and trust can make them come alive with new meaning and purpose. This carefully abridged edition of The Seat of the Soul describes a remarkable journey of transformation - a journey to new dimensions of spiritual discovery.
Although this book has some way out there ideas, many that I did not agree with myself, I still found it very worthwhile to skim over the more strange stuff and concentrate on the absolute Gems that are in there. I recommend using a highlighter on the parts that you like so that you can go over them again and quickly skip over the parts that aren't quite your cup of tea. The most helpful chapter I found was the one on addiction. Perhaps if all you'll ever read of this book is that chapter it will be worth your while. Whether your addiction of choice is overeating, shopping, gambling, drinking, etc. this chapter has excellent insight and advice.
This book is very deep and profound, and yes delves into a whole lot of mumbo jumbo stuff that I admit I rolled my eyes at. And almost everything is described through the eyes of a physicist. So it's not for everyone. But this book has helped me understand myself and connect to my spirit, so I still highly recommend it.
When I saw Gary Zukav on the Oprah show, I thought he was amazing. His ideas really made me think and really seemed to make sense. I thought, wow, here is someone that might have finally figured out the secret to happiness. So, I figured I would buy his book and really study what he had to say. Well, I was really disappointed by the book. Mr. Zukav really seemed to make more sense when he was on the Oprah show than in his writing. It is a very difficult read, with concepts that are really hard to follow. I think he is a brillian man but pehaps he could use some help in explaining his concepts to people. I am a college educated woman and consider myself above average intelligence but Mr. Zukav's writing really
left me frustrated and wanting to know what he was talking about. Perhaps he could follow up this book with another version that explains "The Seat of the Soul".
This book was given to me by a co-worker a while back. She had seen Gary Zukav speak one weekend and this book became her new religion and Gary became her God. After trying to get through this book with everything I had, because I always tell myself there are too many great books out there to read ones I don't like, I plugged through for my co-worker who at the time I admired. And for Oprah, who I also admired and I had seen him on the show. I also had high hopes that maybe the next chapter would be better, or have an answer, any answer. Well, I agree with the last reviewer. This book is VERY esoteric and unless you have a doctorate in "New Age" it is extremely difficult to understand. It's as if he's trying to make it difficult, to make it more difficult. I hate books that are difficult for the sake of being difficult. Good luck to whomever can get through this book, and if you get it please email the answer to me.
The Seat of the Soul describes the remarkable journey to the spirit that each of us is on.Gary Zukav has a unique perspective about life and how to live it. He offers a challenging overview "what is this all about?" without the religious dogma, allowing the individual time to make space in their own lives for other possibilities in spiritual choices. Gary says that the evolution of the human species has gone beyond that phase. As the pioneers of Quantum Physics have discovered, there is much, much more to the universe than can be "understood", measured and detected. Gary Z speaks from the knowing that only those who have been there can understand. We are on the verge of an evolutionary jump, explaining the jump to people who are not ready, or who have not had some of the experience he speaks about, would be almost impossible, they would have to suspend three dimensional thinking ,time and space. Gary Zukav is on the cutting edge of the development of the human species as far as spiritual growth is concerned. His ideas on living as an authentic person provide a road map we all can use to develop not only our personal spirituality but that of the entire species. I believe we are moving as a species from our spiritual childhood through our spiritual adolescence and into spiritual adulthood. Zukav is leading the way.
One word: esoteric. I felt like I needed to have a degree in advanced physics in order to understand what was being said in Gary Zukav's "The Seat of the Soul". I was literally scratching my head all the way through the book. As with most books, I got my recommendation from watching him on Oprah. He was very soft-spoken and mysterious there, so I should have known what I was in for. The book is basically the college course version Eckhart Tolle's "The Power of Now", that is abstruse and convoluted, just for the sake of it. I understood one sentence per paragraph, and just when I thought I could piece together the big picture, Zukav throws a curve ball, and I'm back to square one. Way too advanced for me, and for most casual readers, I'd say. If directions to the seat of the soul is in this book, no wonder we're lost!
