The #1 New York Times bestselling author's groundbreaking new book investigates the complicated relationship women have with money.
Suze Orman equips women with the financial knowledge and emotional awareness to overcome the blocks that have kept them from making more out of the money they have. In chapters such as "You are Not on "Sale," "No Shame, No Blame," and "The 8 Qualities of a Wealthy Woman" Suze delivers her signature mix of insight, compassion, and soul-deep recognition. At the heart of the book is "The Save Yourself Plan" - a streamlined, five-month countdown that delivers genuine long-term financial security. But what's at stake is far bigger than money itself; it's about every woman's sense of who she is and what she deserves, and why it all begins with the decision to save yourself.
I found the steps and concepts concrete and helpful but I think the overall theme of the book was how to get yourself out of disaster rather than "controlling your destiny." As a woman without children and without debt, I found myself skipping over most of the book. It seems best suited for women who need to take charge of a financial mess they've gotten into and stand up to the people in their lives who are putting unrealistic financial pressures on them such as bread winning husbands and kids who need the latest greatest thing.
I saw Suze Orman on PBS on her book on Women and Money before getting my copy. This is not the first copy of her book that I had purchased nor will it be the last. As always she is phenomenal with straight forward no none sense language that gives wonderful advice. Her book is divided into 8 chapters, including "For Women Only", "Imagine What's Possible", "No Shame, No Blame", "You Are Not On Sale", "The 8 Qualities of a Wealthy Woman", "The Save Yourself Plan", "The Commitments", and "Say Your Name”. She also gives a month by month description of things for women to do to put themselves in a good financial position. I was a little sad that I had missed the opportunity to take advantage of her action plan, but that had nothing to do with the book. I just learned about it after the fact. Even though I was not able to take advantage of the plan I still opened my own savings account which I put some away each month. This book offers great advice that everyone, not just women should apply to their lives. It is especially important to read now during these shaky financial times and apply the principals to our lives. Because of her book I am a lot better off then where I was and plan to continue to grow my savings.
Let me just start out by saying that Suze Orman is my favorite. She's blunt, brashs, gets to the point and wont lead you wrong. This book was one of the first books that I purchased from her. I admitt that I am a long time fan of her show, but wow. This is my financial bible. I live by this book. She breaks down some common terms and issues or some of the terminology that you might be confused about when it comes to your money and investing. She's a true Joan of Arc for Currency and making sure that it works for you. I admire that about her and wanted to take that from her.
If you have the opportunity, pick this book up , read it, pick any book up by Suze Orman. This is worth reading.
At first, I was reluctant to purchase Suze Orman's book "Women and Money." Like most intelligent and educated women, financial matters bored me to tears. I would rather leave it to someone else than "worry my pretty head over it." Now, this is a wrong attitude for women to take, and I am glad I purchased this wonderful financial-advice book because it completely changed my ideas about money.
Now, some of the facts and information in this book might work only in America; however, the basic message of the book has a universal appeal. Ladies, this won't do! You must have an account of your own. You must take full control of your finances, and Suzy's book tells you how to do it. Don't ever let your financial advisor bully you into doing what you don't fully understand. Ever had difficulties about choosing between whole life and term insurance? Read Suzy's book! It clears all the financial cobwebs from any woman's head.
