Five biblical answers will transform your outlook on life.
It is easy for anyone to lose focus. It is easy to get caught up in schedules, routines and life in general. You begin to live by a calendar and without passion. Believe me…this book will help you to refocus and realize you can life WITH a purpose. This book helped me to take time-out and really examine the way I was living…and the way I felt about it. I believe it will do the same for you. As a Christian I had the misconception that you had to be a minister or evangelist to feel “purpose” in life. This book helped me to see that I was placed on the earth for a reason and through God I have a purpose in life. It is a book of discovery –discovery of who we are in God. Highly recommended!!
My former boss gave this book to me after I had left our company to pursue another career in another country. She was my first ever boss at my first ever job; she and I got along fabulously, and I knew it broke her heart to see my go (as it did mine to have to leave a great boss like her). This book holds a special place in my heart because of it.
To sum it up, Rick Warren tell us, the reader, that God plans everything and there are no “accidents”. Everyone here on earth has a reason for living. I like the fact that the book does not discriminate on what careers have “purpose” and which ones do not – they all do.
Not everyone may enjoy this book – especially those who don’t appreciate reading bible verses or having God mentioned every other sentence. But the message of this book is clear and concise, and it has changed many people’s lives.
This is a well written book, but don't expect to completely figure out what your God given purpose is by reading the book. It is designed to be self-paced, which is nice, but it may take you a few tries to get through the whole book.
I started reading the book and just got bogged down in it. I truly feel guilty for not liking it. It was really a slow read and I desperately wanted to like it. As suggested in the book, I read a section a day for a few days. Then about four weeks later, I saw the book and was like "Oh, I forgot to keep reading it." Then I'd start again and try to read through it. Nothing could force me to keep up with the book. The author has good ideas, strong foundation, good logic, great sentiments - but I did not like it. The only thing I can say about it, is that the book seemed to present an idea, follow up with a paragraph related to the idea's theme, and that was it. On to the next day. There were some "how does this make you feel" questions to ponder, but overall, it didn't seem cohesive to me. Perhaps if I had read the entire book, it would have been more cohesive to me, but as stated above, I couldn't get through it. Others have given this high reviews, so maybe it's just me, but I don't recommend the book.
This book has good advice but in my grand search for my purpose in life, was a little disappointed I was not able to find my purpose after reading it. The book is faith based with our purpose being to serve God, and I understand the writings of this book, but I was looking for something more. The Purpose Driven Life is great in how the lessons are broken down for self paced learning. This book would make a great gift for those who already know their purpose in life and want to supplement their principles for living a Godly life. I did buy this book new, but used would have been ok. This book is an easy read and easy to understand. It is a comfort book as well, knowing the more people that read it, would be more people you can interact with on a trusting, spiritual level. However, being a single mom, struggling to raise a family on one income, I did feel a little left out of the target group loop this book was intended for.
This book is a wonderful addition to any home library. The book is centered around the Christian Faith. As with any religious book there will be a few things you might not agree with, but the author is quick to point out that you should just disregard those things and take a look at the bigger picture. There are many profound points Rick Warren speaks to. While reading this book you will begin to notice that the earth and world in fact does not revolve around us, but that we were put here for a different purpose. If you will put into practice the guidelines set in this book you will find yourself encouraged and ready to take another step in your Christian walk. Rick Warren spares nothing and lays it all out. We weren't put here for our own selfish entertainment, but to do the work of the master. Remember it's not about you.
This book was recommended to me by my pastor a couple years back. I would definitely describe it as a spiritual book. It provides reading for the day, self reflection, and daily journal writing. I would recommend getting the published journal with the book. It truly is a life altering experience. I know it is cliché but I laughed and I cried. The passion and deep rooted self reflection was unlike anything else I have experienced.
I shared this book with a close friend who was struggling with her purpose in life. She had just left her husband and was with small child. She had no direction in life. I explained my experience and value from reading the book and completing the journal and asked her to do it with me. We read together each day; sometimes by phone or else in person. Our bond together had always been strong but now it is unbreakable. Again, a life altering experience.
