The Greatest Salesman in the World combines the power of storytelling and ancient parable in this classic guide to the true essence of salemanship. It is the two-thousand-year-old tale of Hafid, an impoverished camel boy who came into possession of ten ancient scrolls which contained the wisdom necessary to help him achieve all of his ambitions. Og Mandino presents the complete writings from the original scrolls, and explores how Hafid applied their secrets of success to become the greatest salesman in the world. This perennial bestseller teaches readers that they all have the power to transform their lives and find true fulfillment within the priceless wisdom of the scrolls.
Being a Christian the parable antics of this book were fascinating. I loved its use of wit and humor webbed together with wisdom and advice. I think this is a great lesson in indirect education. You are learning from a story, and by the time the book is finished you have really taken something away that is really more powerful than any self help book can give you, because its not teaching you what it is to be successful or what to do, its how to do it in the most intriguing way. Og, as his name suggests, is not an ordinary person and his language can sometimes get distracting, but its a great read if only for the casual reader who loves a great story, or the business/salesman looking for new ideas.
Always on a quest to improve my selling technique and style I stumbled upon this text by accident. Typically I am not attracted to books that are older in publication when it comes to sales, as most of them are laden with old school techniques that simply don’t work on today’s consumer.
Something about this book made me want to open it and start to read and I am extremely glad I did. Never in my life could I have imagined someone tying together selling and being a salesperson with spirituality. While my initial reaction was feeling this book to be just like all the others, rife with motivational quotes and techniques, I am glad that I read it all the way through.
Mandino’s take on sales and salesmanship is different than any other I have read, and he makes it a profound and rewarding experience in deep thought. This is a great book, not just from a sales perspective, but a spiritual one as well. Bravo!
I read and reread this book several times throughout my life. More than a self help book this is more a guide to changing what you do that get's you in the need for help. The story is a backdrop for the secret's contained in "the scrolls" You read a scroll a day and reflect on it throughout the day. Slowly as time goes by your outlook and thought patterns are being changed for the positive. Life doesn't change, how you respond to it does.
