Change Your Thoughts - Change Your Life: Living the Wisdom of the Tao by Wayne W. Dyer

Five hundred years before the birth of Jesus, a God-realized being named Lao-tzu in ancient China dictated 81 verses, which are regarded by many as the ultimate commentary on the nature of our existence. The classic text of these 81 verses, called the Tao Te Ching or the Great Way, offers advice and guidance that is balanced, moral, spiritual, and always concerned with working for the good.

In this book, Dr. Wayne W. Dyer has reviewed hundreds of translations of the Tao Te Ching and has written 81 distinct essays on how to apply the ancient wisdom of Lao-tzu to today’s modern world. This work contains the entire 81 verses of the Tao, compiled from Wayne’s researching of 10 of the most well-respected translations of text that have survived for more than 25 centuries. Each chapter is designed for actually living the Tao or the Great Way today. Some of the chapter titles are Living with Flexibility, Living Without Enemies, and Living by Letting Go. Each of the 81 brief chapters focuses on living the Tao and concludes with a section called Doing the Tao Now.

Wayne Dyer has always been an inspiration for me since I fist happened upon his work a few years ago. When I saw that he had written a book relating this most famous ancient text into modern life I was very intrigued. Perhaps it is because I was looking for change at the time, but I found this book very insightful in giving me a whole new way to see things. I have read the Tao a few times before but wasn't able to fully grasp much of its meaning until reading this book. Now if you are a fan a Dyer, it is important to note that this is a dramatic shift in his past teachings. But, if you have an open mind, it can open up worlds for you! I would suggest getting another copy of the Tao as well because his translation tends to be a little loose. Enjoy this book and I hope it brings you a bit a peace and happiness!

This is a great read for those who are down in the dumps. The author lifts up the lowest of spirits. He teaches us that all our negative thoughts lead to negative actions. We must change all our toughts, and retrain our brain to think positive in order to produce positive results. Dyer teaches us basic principles related to the Bible, and how to apply them to our daily lives. Each page is an eye opener, and attention getter. There is something new on each page, along with devotions. This book may or may not come with dyer's cd. The cd is also a great listen. This man has changed my life with his concepts. I have personally applied them to my life to find that he was right on the mark with his teachings. I would most definitely recommend anyone to bu this book, and put it to work in your life. You will not regret buying this masterpeice.

If you can practice diligently the theories in this book, you will start feeling the burdens of life come off your shoulders layer by layer. As I've mentioned in a prior "Dyer" review, when I am seriously depressed I can pick up this book and start to feel better after a couple of pages. The things he suggests are so simple, "change your thoughts", yet so elusive. And I guess if you're "practicing diligently", you're missing the point...? So in the end it's about simplifying your life and this book well help you do that. I have always found all of Dyer's books inspiring and this one doesn't disappoint.

In the modern day we are so concerned with jobs, money, and how will we make it into tomorrow. We never stop and give thought to the simple things around us. This book is based on the 81 verses of the Tao and has a chapter for each Tao regarding the concept behind it. This book has a deep message, it is not an easy book to grasp the best way to get some meaning out of it would be to use it to spark some thought as opposed to reading a novel, this book genuinely must be concentrated on and pondered through. This book challenges modern rushed, busy, sometimes hostile society and breaks it down into a much simpler and peaceful society. I definitely recommend this book for the people who really like to think about what they read, because this is the key to getting anything out of this book.
