A YAQUI WAY OF KNOWLEDGE
The teachings of don Juan is the story of a remarkable journey: the first awesome steps on the road to becoming a "man of knowledge" -- the road that continues with A Separate Reality and Journey to Ixtlan.
"For me there is only the traveling on paths that have heart, on any path that may have heart. There I travel, and the only worthwhile challenge is to traverse its full length. And there I travel, looking, looking, breathlessly." -- Don Juan
This book will take you on a fantastic journey, one that will make you question the nature of reality. Many times as I was reading I had to check to make sure that the introduction actually said this was based on a true story, because I was having trouble believing what I was reading. Could it be possible to cavort across time with animal spirits? Is there really a walk that draws power from the earth into the walker? Is any of this real? At this point, I would say so.
I know that many cultures hold ancient secrets we have never really imagined, and that hidden knowledge is all around us but this book "blew my mind". I don't know if it was the lovable hero looking for a story or the crusty old man who taught him that "the story" was only part of the story, but I could not stop reading. Even in the moments when my mind just could not "wrap around" the implications of Don Juan's lessons, I had to keep reading.
Cavorting with the spiritual forces that reside in nature and humanity, stretching the concept of time, receiving energy for the natural field that is all around, the journey was frightening, enlightening and amazing. You will want to read the rest of Castanada's books when you get done with this one. I highly recommend it!
