Art of Public Speaking by Dale Carnegie

The best way to become a confident, effective public speaker, according to the authors of this landmark book, is simply to do it. Practice, practice, practice. And while you're at it, assume the positive. Have something to say. Forget the self. Cast out fear. Be absorbed by your subject. And most importantly, expect success. "If you believe you will fail," they write, "there is hope for you. You will."

Yes, public speaking is an art. Have no doubts about it. I did not know that until I delivered my first seminar in a college. I can’t say I delivered, but tried to do so but honestly I failed miserably as I forgot everything. I prepared for this seminar for about a week. My hands were shivering and so was my voice. I just managed to speak a few words, may be 10% of what I prepared.

Then one day my close friend gave this wonderful book and asked me to give it a try. I started to read this book casually without any expectation. Believe me I was really impressed by Dale Carnegie’s techniques and wanted to implement his powerful methods and see the results. It did help me a lot and I could give a fairly a good speech. Then I gradually improved much better and I am now supposed to be a very good public speaker in my organization.

These tips worked for me well, should work for you as well.

Hi friends, I am working in an Indian Blue chip company since about 30 years and my service record is very good for all these years. My appraisal rating is always more than my expectation but professionally I could not grow beyond my department in spite of my dedicated contribution. Why it is so? I have seen people in my organization get noticed and grow exponentially without any major contributions. How could they achieve undeserved success which was denied to me? My lack of communication skill was the only one aspect which stood between my success and failure. So as per my yoga teacher I started practicing public speaking with the help of some books.I found "Art of public Speaking" written by Dale Carnegie is a very useful one for those persons who are hesitant to share a pubic platform or even one to one communication. If you want to get rid of the common symptoms of stage fear like hand sweating, dry mouth, shaking knee, shivering voice practice is the best remedy for it. But you can practice with the help of this book which will produce a better public speaker. The book contains tips about overcoming stage fear, how to frame your speech and draw the continuous attention of the audience, how to gauge the taste of the audience and make your speech accordingly etc. In a nut shell this book is a very effective tool to master the art of communication and public speaking which is very important for the overall growth of an individual both professionally as well as personally.

Friends,When I could change myself and taste the success with the help of these tips, why can't you?

As a Project Manager with a huge company, I often have to give updates to a large group of people in a conference room and sometimes speak at workshops talking about new technology and our products. I have often thought of myself who is comfortable giving speeches and there was nothing I could improve on. That is till I read this book of 'Art of public speaking'. The tips and techniques given in here are cool and can probably make a great orator out of a shy person too. I have already been using many of the tips though I can refine them further now and there are many which were new even to me and I have no doubt will help me a lot.
This book is worth buying, although I read my copy at a library. I am going to gift this to my friend who is quite shy at giving speeches.

Public speaking is indeed an art as rightly said by the great author Dale Carnegie. He is amazing. He only can write so well in simple English with real powerful words. I was scared to speak in a stage before I read this book. I gradually applied the techniques given by the author and started to come out of stage fear largely. Now I can speak in public for hours without any fear. His tips are very useful for all public speakers. You should feel confident when addressing a crowd. You should do solid home work before addressing a public meeting. Content is the king and therefore you should have valid points to support your stand. You should try to speak interestingly. You should speak short and sweet. You should add humor to your speech if you want appreciation from your audience. Above all practice and practice until you become very good in public speaking. I recommend this awesome book to those want to master the art of public speaking.

I apologize ahead of time, but this book should have no less than a 5 star rating. I was an English and Communications major at my university and I learned more from this book than my communication classes. Public speaking is more feared than even death, this book I think takes a good look at that, makes you ask yourself "what is the absolute worst thing that could happen" and then realize the chances of that happening are like none. I reallllly appreciated him saying that. The real thing you need is passion. If you have the passion, the speaking part comes easily because you then have a "message". Anyway, as soon as you can get out of the way of the message and let it come through you, you become a great public speaker. Great book.
